Reading Analysis


In addition to independent reading Bright Star Secondary Charter will
incorporate reading analysis. Reading analysis has been embedded into
core classes with the goal to have students read books selected by their
teachers and student able to successfully analyze the content.

9th Grade

9th graders will need to complete 100 independent reading points by the end
of their 9th grade year.

Students are able to select their own books and test through the reading
counts system (SAM). Their 9th grade literature teacher will have set times to log
them in the reading counts system in order to take quizzes and accrue their
reading counts points.


10th Grade

10th graders will need to have completed 200 independent reading points
by the end of their 10th grade year. Class of 2017 will only need 100
independent points by the end of this current school year (2014-15)


to log them in the reading counts system in order to take quizzes and
accrue their reading counts points.


11th Grade

Those rising juniors that have reached 400 points or more do not have to read
anymore independent books, but must complete the in class portion

All other juniors must reach 400 total independent points upon graduation, as well as
the in class requirements


the reading counts system in order to take quizzes and accrue their reading counts

70% or higher reading counts points completed: Seniors have a choice:

Seniors remain on reading counts system and complete 1400 points and NO
book analysis required

40%-70% reading counts points completed:

or complete the 5 books and analysis
Students will complete reading analysis
40% and below:

Students will need to get the 400 reading counts points & book analysis
