Comprehension of Iliad story

What can I write in my Reading Journal?

Your journal could include some of the following ideas:

Write a description of the main character – their appearance, the way they dress, the way they talk and their personality; you could even draw a picture of your impression.

Choose a particularly descriptive passage and make a list of examples of vivid imagery e.g. similes, metaphors, noun phrases etc.

List the words and phrases used to create atmosphere.

Write what a character might be feeling at any stage in the story.

Keep a record of your predictions about what might happen in the next chapter or the rest of the novel

Write down words that you do not understand and look them up in a dictionary. Record their definitions in your journal.

Write about your favourite part and why you like it.

Choose a descriptive word from the text, write it down, and, using a thesaurus, make a list of five synonyms and antonyms for that word.

Write some advice to a character in trouble.

Explain whether you would recommend the book and why.
