Mission Growth: Europe at the lead of
the new industrial revolution
It will affect many economic sectors and it will be
accompanied by technological innovation and the
creation of new professional figures, such as
– New materials and nanotechnologies
– Innovations in the chemical sector and biotechnologies as to
create sustainable and competitive biofuels

Mission Growth: Europe at the lead of
the new industrial revolution
Green technologies
big opportunity for European firms; the global market
for environmental goods and services is expected to
double/triple by 2020
Employment growth in eco-industry 2000/2008
6,98 % (in average)

How can EU action help?
• Overcoming the bottleneck of access to finance
• Consultation: enabling consumers to spur industrial
innovation
• Reinforce initiatives to relaunch growth with shortterm actions

Horizon 2020 – general objective
Horizon 2020 shall contribute to building an economy
based on knowledge and innovation across the whole
Union by leveraging sufficient additional research,
development and innovation funding. Thereby, it shall
support the implementation of the Europe 2020
strategy and other Union policies, as well as the
achievement and functioning of the European Research
Area (ERA).

Horizon 2020 – priorities
1) Excellent science
2) Industrial leadership
3) Societal challenges
www.euchems.eu
„Novel green innovation alliances and industrial
symbiosis shall be fostered allowing industries to
diversify, expand their business models, re-using
their waste as a basis for new productions, e.g. CO2
as carbon base for fine chemicals and alternative
fuels.“
„Enabling the transition towards a green economy
through eco-innovation“
„A number of the so-called twelve rules of Green
Chemistry are also addressed by biotechnology“
