Personal names - 1
• Fictitious characters are now treated as
“persons”
e.g. Poirot, Hercule
• Real non-human entities may be creators
e.g. Socks (Presidential pet), 1989-2009
• Terms indicating relationship such as Jr
are treated as part of the preferred name
e.g. Sigrist, Paul E., Jr.

• Use of “active” over “fl.”
• May add an occupation or field of activity
to break a conflict
e.g. Goodwin, Allen $c (Psychologist)
• The MARC 21 subfield “c” is used more
consistently

1XX fields that cannot be used in RDA
bibliographic records without review and
that cannot be changed mechanically
• THIS 1XX FIELD CANNOT BE USED

BEEN REVIEWED AND/OR UPDATED
LC/NACO Authority File changes –
Phase 2
• Programmatic changes to the 1XX
headings that are not acceptable under
RDA
– Changes to Bible headings
– Spelling out Dept.
– Spelling out months etc. in the subfield “d” for
personal names
• Scheduled to take place before March 31,
2013
LC/NACO Authority File changes –
Phase 3
• Remaining records with 1XX fields that
can be used in RDA without modification
• Proposed that these records be re-coded
as RDA
• As close to March 31, 2013 as possible

• RDA authorities can be used in AACR2
records
• Continue to use available authorities in
RDA records, even if the note in the 667
field signals review is needed
