Social Care Induction Framework for Wales
• The Social Care Induction Framework for Wales aims
to support the workforce by:
– providing a structure upon which induction can be based
– It supports a common understanding to induction in social
care in Wales
– outlines the knowledge and competence workers need to
demonstrate in their first 12 weeks of employment
– whether they are new to social care or new to an
organisation or role

• The revised framework takes account of changes to
qualifications
• The learning objectives in the framework are mapped to the
Code of Practice for Social Care Workers
• Mandatory social care qualification units
• And that it makes explicit reference to the Welsh language and
culture

learning activities that will best meet the needs of their new workers, as
long as they meet the learning outcomes. These methods may include:

worker’s understanding of their role and responsibilities at work:

• It is the manager’s responsibility to sign off the completed SCIF
• Managers should complete and sign the Certificate of Successful
Completion and keep a copy for their records. The manager should give
the completed original Certificate to the worker
• Managers should not sign off induction certificates lightly
• Managers should be aware of their legal responsibility when certifying a
worker’s SCIF
• There may be implications for themselves, the worker and the individuals
using the service
• Managers have a duty to ensure that newly inducted staff are safe to
practice at this stage of their development
