Plot 1 :Summary
• Hagar fell to the floor in the cannery, in pain and

fatigued. She wounds a sea gull with a box
and like her, lies throbbing aloud.
She picks apart a dead June bug to make a hair
decoration.
A man appears, finds refuge from dogs, in the
cannery.
They both share some similarities in life - both
have run away, he to drink, both have lost a
son.
They get drunk together and fall asleep.
Murray, the salesman, comforts her as she
cries, remembering John’s death.

John and Arlene died that night in an accident result of a bet that he could drive his truck
across a railway trestle bridge
hagar refuses to cry in front of others at the
hospital.
Then she finds that she can’t cry at home. “she felt like she was transformed to stone”.
She feels like there were many things to be said
- to be put right.
