The key skills in Maths
• Students should learn their times tables as this helps
support them with other areas of Maths.
• There are many different ways to get to the answer –
don’t worry that you might be ‘unteaching’ them
what they’ve learnt.
• But… ask your child to explain what they have
learnt and explain it to you.

• Homework project for each unit

reading and writing.

KS3 English: Specific strategies
•Encourage them to read every day (and
write about what they read).
•Encourage them to write every day (and

• Encourage them to extend their vocabulary: word
of the day, thesaurus, challenging reading
materials.
• Discuss topics and issues with them and encourage
them to use standard English and grammar.
