harassment?
• Verbal abuse
• Threatening Behaviour such as intimidation and aggression
• Threatening and/or abusive correspondence either by letter,
e-mail, MSN, video or via social networking sites
• Threatening and/or abusive phone calls and text messages
• Deliberately ‘outing’ or threat of ‘outing’
• Criminal damage to personal belongings, buildings or vehicles
• Offensive graffiti or printed materials
• Placing excrement, rubbish, paint or any other offensive
substances on any part of a house or building
• Arson or attempted arson
• Physical attacks
What is Gateshead ARCH?
Gateshead ARCH is a group of agencies
working together to provide a coordinated
approach to stop hate crime and to enable
everyone in Gateshead to feel safe and
secure.
How can people report to
Gateshead ARCH?
• Reports can be made
– In person at designated reporting centres
– Via 24 hour telephone number
(0191 433 2648)
– Via a Community Contact Point
• Anonymous reports can be taken
• Reports can be made on someone’s behalf
• Reports can be taken by witnesses

– 184 referrals
– 73% of incidents motivated on grounds race
– 113 cases included verbal abuse
– On average there are two cases a month
with victims suffering Physical attack

Why should my school be
involved?
• Support is available from wide number of referral
agencies for the individual, their family and the school
• Cases are dealt with in strict confidence, schools will be
fully involved in the process. Schools will not be named
and shamed
• Incidents can be recorded for monitoring purposes only
without any partner intervention
• Helps to provide a picture about hate crime in
Gateshead
• Free Training available on use of ARCH system
• Hope to replace paper based racist incident reporting
system
What Next
• If your school wants further information,
briefings to individual schools can be
arranged
• An email will be sent to all Head teachers
offering training on the ARCH system
