Findings and Trims
Finding- all components of a garment
except the body fabric. Includes: trim,
labels, threads, elastics, underlying
fabric, zippers, buttons, other closures,
ect.
 Trim- Subdivision of findingsdecorative materials that adorn
garments. Including: ribbons, braids,
laces, appliqués, flowers, beads,
sequins, and other decorative details.

Braids
Intertwining a set of yarns according to
a definite pattern to form a narrow
fabric.
 Types:Soutache, Middy, Loop,
Scrolling , Gimp, Rickrack.

Appliqués

Decorative fabric patches applied to
the garment. Usually with fusible
backed fabric, ironed on and attached
with stitches.

Pockets

Patch or applied- pieces of fabric
attached like a patch, outside of the
garment. Casual- used in back jean
pocket, front of shirts, ect.
In Seam Pocket

In seam- set into a seam of the
garment. Usually in the side seam of
skirts, pants, dresses.
Slashed Pocket

Single Welt-one lip
1/2 inch wide
 Double Welt- two
lips 1/4 inch wide
Flap
Flap- have a flap of fabric above the
pocket. The flap extends down over
the pocket opening.
 Fake flap pocket- not functional.
 Upturned flap- Extends up not down is
seen in tailored jackets.


Cuffs- banded or turned back finishes
at the lower edge of a sleeve and
pant leg.
