NEW STUDENTS:
PROGRESSION AND AWARD
• How do I progress between levels?
• How is my final award calculated?
Progression from Level 4 to Level 5
New UG students (Y1) will study modules worth 120 credit points at
Level 4. You will need to pass modules worth at least 100 credit points
to progress from Level 4 to Level 5.
This means:
• You must pass 5 out of 6 “standard 20 credit point” modules with a
mark of 40% or more
• You must achieve an average across the whole level of 40% or
more
• You may fail one module and still progress but you must achieve no
less than 30%
•
•
•
•
You must submit work for every component of assessment
Any reassessments will be set at component level
A component is a part of a module which has a final assessment attached to it
– eg a module with 30% exam and 70% coursework has 2 components
You may be reassessed in up to 100% of the level
Progression from Level 5 to Level 6
Once you progress to Level 5, the position is the same. You will study
modules worth 120 credit points and you will need to pass modules
worth at least 100 credit points to progress from level 5 to level 6.
As before, this means:
• You must pass 5 out of 6 “standard 20 credit point” modules with a
mark of 40% or more
• You must achieve an average across the whole of the level of 40%
or more
• You may fail one module and still progress but you must achieve no
less than 30%
•
You must submit work for every component of assessment
•
Any reassessments will be set at component level
•

Degree Award Calculation
Degree classifications are awarded for the following levels of
achievement:
First Class – Overall Marks of 70%+
Upper Second Class – Overall Marks of 60-69%
Lower Second Class – Overall Marks of 50-59%
Third Class – Overall Marks of 40-49%
Method of Calculation
To succeed at Level 6 you must:
• Pass 5 out of 6 “standard 20 credit point modules” or equivalent with a mark
of 40% or more
• Achieve an average across the whole level of 40% or more.
• You may fail one module and still be awarded but you must achieve no less
than 30%
Your degree outcome is calculated from your “best 100 credit points” at level 5
and at level 6. Your weakest performance is not considered.
Your degree outcome is the average mark from your best 100 credits at
Level 5 @25% weighting added to the average mark from your best 100
credits at Level 6 @75% weighting
