Why use Factorials?

APSIM Factorials

Single Crop for CropARM

• 47 x Site

• 4 x Soil

• 3 x Starting Water

• 3 x Cultivar

• 4 x Sowing Density

• 5 x Sowing Dates

• 3 x Starting Nitrogen

• 3 x Row Spacing

• Total = 304,560 Runs

APSIM Factorials

Using Factorials

• Click the Factorial button on the Toolbar

• Right click – Add

Factor/Folder

• Drag items from the simulation tree across to the factor node

APSIM Factorials

Factorial Configuration

• Factorial Tree, Factor Targets

APSIM Factorials

Using Met Components

• 3 ways to add Met components

• Add multiple Met components to a factor node.

• Single silo component with a list of stations.

• Single met component with a list of file names.

APSIM Factorials

Using Soil Components

APSIM Factorials

Using Manager Components

• Use Sowing Rule to manage multiple

– Cultivars

– Densities

– Dates

– Row Spacing

APSIM Factorials

Multiple Simulations (304,560)

APSIM Factorials

Advanced Factorials

• Soils are not the same across all sites.

• 5 sites x 4 soils x 100 (5x4x4) sowing options = 2,000 runs..

• Add Folders & Sub Folders, which will change the way the factorials are calculated.

• It will make a list of the lowest folder nodes in the tree.

APSIM Factorials

Advanced Factorials

• Each identified folder is treated as a single set of factorials. These sets are then added together, not multiplied.

• WA has 1 site x 1 soil x 100 sowing.

Site & Soil are overridden.

100 Simulations

• SA has 1 site x 2 soils x 100 sowing.

200 Simulations.

• ALL has 3 sites and inherits all of the soils. 3 x 4 x 100 = 1200 Simulations
