Plan
Why is North Carolina developing Home Base?
The central focus of
READY is improving
every student’s
learning ...
…and enabling
and ensuring great
teaching is how
we get there.
One of the ways to enable great
teaching is to put powerful tools in
the hands of teachers and school
leaders.

Home Base: Key Points
Training and Support in the Kick-Off Year (2013-2014)
• Local decision
The decision to opt-in to the instructional improvement elements of
Home Base is yours. We want to help you make the best choice for you.
• The advantage of the kick-off year
We believe you will make the best decision about the instructional and
fiscal benefit of this tool if you have it to use without risk in 2013-2014
• Users will lead the way
We expect some districts, schools and particularly teachers to run out
ahead and point the way for others. We will all learn from them.
• Phased in Approach
We don’t expect you will use all of the tools at once. Instead you’ll have
time to test it out and plan accordingly.
