P Important Notes About Projects
 These are the only approved projects for
this semester. No others will be added.
 The first three projects listed (those with
titles in red) are sponsored projects,
representing real customer needs. These
projects will be assigned, selected or not.
 If a project is selected/assigned that shows
the sponsor as “TBD,” a sponsor must be
identified and named by the team within one
week of project start.
P Consultant Staffing Analysis Tool
 Develop a decision Support/Analysis tool to
provide an easy way to align consultants with
delivery needs/engagements
 Determine optimal client assignment for named
consultants in most efficient manner, based on
skills, availability, etc.
 Other requirements: mobile capability, “visual
dashboard” view, etc.
 This is a real need for a major consulting
company.

P Volunteer Army Tracking System
 Develop a tool for tracking volunteers’ time
and activities.
 Volunteers sign in and select/record
volunteer work (time, activity, etc.)
 Tool provides analysis and reports to
administrator(s) via smartphone app and web
interface
 This is a real customer need.

P Outreach Inventory System
 Develop a smart inventory system that provides
real-time updates on what is available
(contents, amounts and locations).
 Use unique RFID tags to track items
 Update the user on inventory contents through
mobile and web-based application.
 Group items into “Projects” to allow display of
availability of all items needed for that project
 This is a real customer need.

P Smart Shoes
 Use sensors in shoes to:
 track weight distribution and determine
balance, pronation, etc.
 determine pace (walking, running, movement
patterns)
 Collect and analyze data to provide
health/training advice
 Present to user via smartphone application
and browser interface

P Visible Light Communication
System
 Develop a system that uses LEDs to
communicate data.
 Integrate LED modem(s), light receiver(s)
and intelligent devices (smartphones,
tablets, etc.)
 Sponsor: Dr. Yonghe Liu, CSE Faculty
P Neighborhood Patrol Drone
 Develop a system that uses a drone to patrol
a neighborhood and locate “suspicious”
activities.
 UAV patrols fixed area at random intervals,
recording video along path.
 Base station analyzes video from drone in
real-time and reports designated
events/activities to smartphone and web
browser apps.
 Sponsor: TBD (a DFW-area neighborhood
association).
P Sherpa Drone
 Develop a system that uses a drone guide to
lead users to locations/items in a store or
warehouse.
 Base station maintains inventory and
provides information to drone
 Drone launches from base station and guides
user to the desired item at reasonable
walking pace.
 Integrate drone (quad-rotor, UAV, etc.) and
base station to accomplish objective

P Virtual Drivers’ Training System
 Develop a system that will provide drivers’
training using a VR headset (a driving
“game”).
 Integrate realism by using devices with a
“cockpit” including steering wheel,
accelerator, brake pedal, turn indicators,
etc.
 Provide a mechanism to score the student on
various driving scenarios.

P Home Irrigation Control System
 Develop a system for homeowners to use for
watering gardens/lawns.
 Integrate sensors with home irrigation
system to determine moisture content in soil
and adjust watering based on characteristics
and water needs of plantings, etc.
 Integrate with wireless smartphone app to
allow remote configuration and modification
of settings, etc.
 Sponsor: TBD (Local Irrigation Company)
P Autonomous Material Delivery
System
 Develop an autonomous delivery system using
quad rotor or similar lightweight UAV.
 System would be able to deliver printed or
other light weight materials to multiple
specified locations within, say, a building or
campus.
 Use a small form factor UAV such as the
quad rotor with integrated GPS and camera.
 Sponsor: TBD (Local delivery company, CSE
lab, UTARI, etc.)
