USSD SERVICE

• Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) is a technology that makes communication interactive and easy to use

• Can be accessed from any simple GSM mobile phone, with no special application requirements on the handset

• The user is asked to choose between various options provided

• The progress of one session into the next depends on the user's response

• The connection remains open, allowing a two-way exchange of a sequence of data

Things to Note before using USSD :

• This is a Toll free service, i.e. you will not be charged (pay) for this service.

• Works currently only on AIRTEL/ IDEA / TATA / BSNL / VODA PHONE GSM

SIM ( prepaid or Post paid)

• There is a time limit of 30 seconds for sending each response where each session time for updating service delivery data of individual beneficiary is

3 minutes. However users as per their competency can update more than

1 beneficiary record within the prescribed time limit.

• If response is not received in 30 seconds the USSD session will be disconnected.

• Currently supports HINDI & ENGLISH language, but this is dependent of Mobile Phone language support.

Protocol for using USSD

Step 1: Saving of USSD Dial Code (One time activity):

Save USSD code number (*491*101# for English and *491*102# for Hindi) in mobile contact list.

Step 2 Centre verification & Locking (One time activity):

User firstly verify their name and centre location through by centre verification again to lock it. This is one time activity but mandatory for updating of service delivery records of beneficiary by Users/ ANM .

Step 3 Ready in hand (Regular activity):

ANM/ Users be handy with work plan, pen or pencil side by hand as session is of 3 minutes duration & every reply need to be given in 30 seconds .

Step 4 Data updation (Regular activity):

Keep in mind following essential parameters during data updating

Year of registration of beneficiary, Last five digits of MCTS ID of beneficiary

(allotted to ANM), USSD Codes of each service delivered to beneficiary ,

Reply time of 30 seconds & session time of 3 minutes

Roles & Responsibilities of Field Staff.

ASHA:

 Identification of beneficiary.

 Facilitates ANM in providing of timely due services to beneficiary.

 Promote beneficiary for availing timely due services.

ANM:

 Verify the work plan / services due list.

 Timely providing of due services to beneficiary as per due list / work plan

 Maintaining of MCTS / Integrated RCH register.

 Update service delivery records by using USSD.

Block M & E officer/ Data Officer:

 Ensure timely delivery of work plan to ANM.

 Ensure universal registration and timely data updation as per the services delivered to beneficiary by ANM.

 Provide training to ANM on USSD and guide them to ensure real time data updates of their sub centre.

 Facilitate BMO in MCTS & RCH implementation progress review and addressing challenges. Review should be taken by using MCTS generated report.
