
Multiple Choice Strategies
◦ Read the whole question and all of the answers before
picking an answer.
◦ Make sure that you understand what the question is
asking and that you are responding to the question being
asked.
◦ Identify and underline or circle the key words in the
question.
◦ There is only one best answer. You can eliminate other
choices to find it. Focus on key words.

11

Multiple Choice Strategies, con’t
◦ Note your guesses (or the questions you found hardest)
and return to them at the end if you have time.
◦ There is no penalty for guessing. If you go back to an
answer, have a good reason for changing it. Your first
choice is often the best choice if you have eliminated
answers you know are incorrect.
◦ If you are faced with a scenario, read the questions first
and then read the scenario with the questions in mind.
◦ Pace yourself.
(C) 2012 Dunlap-Stone University, Inc.
12

A passing score of 75% requires you to get 60
questions right. Every wrong answer you eliminate
gets you one choice closer to the magic number of
60 correct answers.
