YUKON
NEWS
Today we are interviewing the lead dog
who helped Walt Masters get to Dawson.
With our reporter Karry Konner
How did it feel to not be the lead dog at
first?
I felt very irritated that the horrible lead dog
was leading us in the wrong direction i kept
on barking at him to act like a better lead dog.
I had also felt confused that I was not
leadleading the the team.
What did it feel like when
walt woke you up?
I felt very tired and i wondered why we were
up so late after a long day of going to the
claims , so I asked myself “ Why were we up
so late in the night?”
Did you feel sad when the horrible
lead dog got shot?
I did feel happy that I was able to help Walt
but the horrible lead dog shouldn’t have died
even if he was so horrible. I wanted to make
it up to him so I said a prayer when he died.
Do you like being the lead dog for Walt or
for the stampeders better?
I liked being the lead dog for Walt better better
because he was a good person. He brought
us food and he helped Loren. He also didn’t
whip us three to four times a day like the
stampeders did.
Were you tired after a long day of
heading to Dawson?
I did feel very tired and weary after a long day
of heading to Dawson ,but when we got there
I was was so happy that we finally got a
break from all that work.

Michael Jackson:
What was it like growing
up without a mother?
Walt:
I never really met her. And my father did
a good job raising me. At some points it
was hard without her there, but I always
ended up ok.
Michael Jackson:
How did you feel
when you heard the
Irishmen talking
about jumping the
claims?
and I’m going up
against several Irish
men.” But then I felt
I must do something
for old Loren Hall.
Walt:
I felt nervous, and rushed because I only had a
little time to get the dogs ready. I could hear the
Irishmen coming. I was almost breathless with
suspense, but I was determined to keep going for
lame, Loren Hall.
Walt:
Loren Hall was surprised to see me
and he was a little angry at first
because I should’ve been watching his
claim, but once I told him the story he
was thankful.
Michael Jackson:
Did you ever see
the Irish men
again?
Walt:
No, I never saw the Irish
men again. I think they
tried there best to stay
away after that.

Irishman interview
By Avery, Halle, and Susan
What did it feel like to get
whipped in the face?
It hurt at first but then it just made more
furious at Walt
How did it feel to get your
sled dogs stolen?
I was angry and kind a disappointed
that a kid was able to take my sled
dogs.
Why did you and the other
stampeders want to steel
Loren Halls claim?
I wanted to steel Loren Halls claim because
we wanted to get rich fast without having to
any of the hard work.
Why did you shoot at Walt?
I shot at Walt because I wanted him too
stop and hand over our sled dogs.
Why did you cover your face
after you got whipped?
I covered my face because it hurt really
bad and I didn’t want to let Walt see
that he hit me.
Did you notice that you shoot
the lead dog?
No not at first but after I saw Walt leave
the body I figured I shot him.

William, Noah,Matthew, and Jordan
Mr. London, How do you feel about
the story?
“I think it was one of those story that makes
you seem like you have a good life because
someone else is helping others and doing
what’s right.”
Why did you have this setting?
I chose this setting because that was where I
lived during my life. Also I had thought the story
would not make sense without this setting.
What happened after the story. Did
you become famous? Explain.
“Well I did not seem very famous to people in my town,
but to people who didn’t know me they thought I was
famous for all of my books.”
What inspired you to write this story,
How does this inspire you?
“Well I think it was good to write this story
because it is kind of like telling my life in a
story because when I was a child I had to live
in the yukon which was very harsh for me.”
Last of all in your opinion what do
you think about the story?
“I just loved the story it was an inspirational
story to lots of people including myself. Also it
looks like it was one of the best story book of
the time.”
