Reflection
Universal Destination of Goods
o God created the earth and its resources for the
benefit of all humanity.
o We are not ultimately the owners of anything,
but required to be good stewards
o Not contrary to personal ownership, private
property – But they are not absolute
o Larger social function to contribute to authentic
development
Genesis
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image,
after our likeness; and let them have dominion
over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the
air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and
over every creeping thing that creeps upon the
earth." So God created man in his own image, in
the image of God he created him; male and female
he created them. And God blessed them, and God
said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the
earth and subdue it; and have dominion over the
fish of the sea and over the birds of the air and
over every living thing that moves upon the earth."
(Genesis 1:26-28)
Genesis
“God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them:
Be fertile and multiply and fill the earth. Fear and
dread of you shall come upon all the animals of the
earth and birds of the air, upon all the creatures
that move about on the ground and all the fishes of
the sea; into your power they are delivered. Any
living creature that moves about shall be yours to
eat; I give them all to you as I did the green plant.”
(Genesis 9:1-3)
Old Testament
o “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it.” (Psalm 24:1)
o “To the Lord your God belong the heavens,
even the highest heavens, the earth and
everything in it.” (Deuteronomy 10:14)
o “The land must not be sold permanently,
because the land is mine and you are but aliens
and my tenants.” (Leviticus 25:23)
o “Who has a claim against me that I must pay?
Everything under heaven belongs to me.” (Job
41:11)
New Testament

(Matthew 25:14-30)
o Pounds
