Good Shepherd Appeal 2015
The Family
Jesus the Good Shepherd
I am the good shepherd,
and know my sheep,
and my sheep know me.
My sheep hear my voice,
And I know them,
And they follow me.
What does a shepherd do?
How can you be a Good Shepherd?
Pope Francis the Good Shepherd
Quote from Pope Francis
‘To live charitably means not looking out for our own
interests, but carrying the burdens of the weakest and
poorest among us.’
The Good Shepherd Appeal

The Good Shepherd Appeal started in 1903 by Father James
Nugent.
It was started to help the most vulnerable children and
adults in the North West.
Last year schools across the Archdiocese raised £66,000.
Ask your mum, dad, nan and grandad about the Good Shepherd
Appeal.
How did you help the Good Shepherd last year?
•
Why is the Good Shepherd Appeal
collection during Lent?
The Season of Lent is from Ash Wednesday to Holy
Saturday, the day before Easter Sunday.
Lent is a time when we think of others before ourselves.
Many people choose to give up something they like, or do
something to help others.

What could you do this Lent?
What could you do for Lent?
What are you doing for Lent to raise money for the Good
Shepherd Appeal?
Why is Lent a good time to raise money for the Good
Shepherd Appeal?
What challenges did families face when the
Good Shepherd Appeal started in 1903?
The Good Shepherd Appeal was started because
there were so many poor and needy people.
Father Nugent saw a lot of people without any
shoes and who were hungry and dirty. They did
not have a home to sleep in and they huddled
together on the streets in the winter to try and
keep warm.
Do people live like this today?
Is being poor just about not having any money?
Who is Nugent Care?
If the Good Shepherd Appeal was started by Father James
Nugent, then who is Nugent Care?
Nugent Care is the charity of the Archdiocese of Liverpool
and was founded in 1881 by Father James Nugent. Today
we carry on his work supporting and helping children,
adults and the community.
Some of the things we do
with your money
Help people to hear again.
Provide people with a bag of food.
Train people to become volunteers.
Support people that are homeless.
Support and help children and adults in our schools and
