A. Use different materials/technology
- Group A :
working on a piece of language study
discussing a topic
Group B :
reading a story/ doing Internet-based research
doing a writing exercise/listening to an audio track
B. Do different tasks with the same material/technology
- the same reading text with sets of questions at three different levels
- the same language study exercise:
simple repletion vs. use the new language in more complex sentences
- role-plays

- to maximize student participation
- clear instructions + tell how to stop the activity + good feedback

What if?
• 4. What if students don’t do homework?
A. Ask the students
- what they think about homework, the agreement about how much, their
interests
- their ideas of useful and appropriate homework > use the results to set
homework > more students did the homework with enthusiasm
B. Make it fun
- give out homework in envelopes, send them in mails
- sometimes serous and sometimes crazy
C. Respect homework
- mark it and hand it back on time
D. Make post-homework productive
- useful comments, make sure students react to the suggestions
What if students are uncooperative?
A number of ways to react:
• Keep calm
respond as objectively as we can.
• Deal with the behavior, not the student
stop problem behavior from continuing.
• Be even-handed
students resent favoritism.
• Go forward
how their behavior can be improved.
• Use any means of communication
communicate with students and parents.
• Enlist help
talk to other colleagues and the school.
• Prevention
make a language-learning contract (on page 230)
What if students don`t want to talk?

let students talk to their group members.
• Allow students to speak in a controlled way
(1) dictate an uncompleted sentence.
(2) let students write down what they are going

fall , where the emphasis goes, what emotion
the actor should try to convey.....
• Use role-play
give everyone a role-card.(on page 125,126)

ask students to record the content outside the
lesson.

(1) cut script into bits
(2) let students see the first part of audioscript
(3) students fill in the blanks

tell students some key words before listening.
• Have students listen all the time

as often as possible.

everybody else?
