Hypothesis: An educated guess
What you think will happen based on the
science you know.
 If I put Alka Seltzer in warm water, it will
dissolve faster than room temperature water.
 If I roll a large ball down a hill, it will go faster
than a small ball.

Independent Variable

Independent Variable: the variable you
have control over, what you can choose
and manipulate. It’s what you want to see
the effect of.

The effect of calcium chloride crystals in a
dissicator on the amount of rust of an iron

Dependent Variable

Dependent Variable: what you measure.
The variable changes or responds to the
independent variable.

The effect of temperature on mold growth on
white bread.
Control

the variable is what you compare the
independent variable to. It is the same
type of substance or condition. It may be
the normal condition.


Variables other than independent and
responding that are kept the same so the
only change is due to the independent
