WIM DELVOYE

The neo-conceptualist Belgian

EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

 Born in 1965 in the small town Wervik located in West Flanders, Belgium.

 Mostly inspired by the Roman Catholic religion and it’s symbols

 The pessimistic expectations of Belgium Art schools left Wim freed to do as he please saying “[H]e had nothing to lose.”

MODERN WORK

 Works are a mix of both the Attractive and Repulsive, mostly focusing on the human form.

 He considers himself more of an originator of ideas and concepts, liking the idea behind the work rather than the act of painting or building his work.

 He lives and works primarily in Belgium.

ODDBALL FACTS

 After 1990, Wim Delvoye directs a group of specialists to make most of his work to this very day

 In 1992, Delvoye received international recognition with the presentation of his “Mosaic” at Documenta IX, a symmetrical display of glazed tiles featuring photographs of his own excrement.

 He showed an interest in verious forms and functions of art, including how the body worked, Religious symbols and conotations, and every other subject inbetween.

MOST NOTABLE WORKS

 Wim’s most famous pieces of art are;

• “Cloaca”

• “Ant Farm”

• And his gothic works.

Cloaca, or the Digestive machine, took 8 years collaborating with many experts ranging in a wide field from plumbing to gastroenterology. This man-made machine actually turns real food into “poop” which

Wim then bottles in Resin and openly sells. The orginal machine is located in the Museum voor

Hedendaagse Kunst, Antwerp.

“Ant farm” is a piece Wim did by taking pigs from slaughter houses; yes, freshly killed pigs for our morning munchies, and tattoos the skin.
