cardiovascular fitness unit

Kelsey Dolan
Objectives
• Utilizing formative assessment for the benefit
of both the student and the teacher to reflect
and learn.
• Have a better understanding of what the
common core looks like in the gymnasium and
how to use it.
• How to incorporate technology
Formative Assessment
#1. Why use Formative Assessment?
• Activate prior background
knowledge (see where they
stand at the beginning of a
unit)
• Used typically at the end of a
new idea or concept
• Fancy check for
understanding. How do you
know they really understood?
• Not used for a grade 
Formative Assessment Cont.
• Teacher- re-teach, make changes, reuse
lesson, certain groups got it they can help
others…etc.
• Student- forces to pause, reflect meaningfully
with new info. Unlikely to retain info. w/o time
to pause and apply it to self, others, and the
real world around them. Result = learning and
placed into easily accessible archives in the
brain.
