Need a task force to serve as stewards
of nascent community at intersection
of robotics and AI
• Identify opportunities in the broadest sense of the
word: funding, events, publications and tools fostering
collaborations
• Generate metrics for progress, mechanisms for joint
interactions and joint review
• Cheerlead and suggest awards for exemplars of
AI+Robotics
• Assist funding agencies in monitoring competitions,
challenges, etc.

Encouraging parallel publications in AI and Robotics venues
edited volumes targeting specific topics at the borders

– refresh roadmap annually
– Candid state of the intersection report every two years,
including conferences and activities
Envision a small, balanced task force
of members selected by a consortium
of agencies, professional
organizations, and conferences
• Usual suspects
– NSF, NRI
– AAAI, IEEE (asymmetric-- AAAI is trying to get
robotics but RAS is less there)
• But equally important
– IEEE PAMI. SMC, …
– DARS, WAFR, ICAPS, SOCS, AAMAS, ICML
Immediate goals
• create the task force
• within 12 months hold the first workshop
meeting--> with the goal of bootstrapping a AI
Robotics roadmap
• possibly with NSF CCC funding
