“I am the bread of life,” Jesus told them. “No
one who comes to Me will ever be hungry,
and no one who believes in Me will ever be
thirsty again.

• Refers to his life-giving role
• We no longer hunger for meaning
• Jesus sustains our eternal destiny
The Light of the World (8:12)
Then Jesus spoke to them again: “I am the
light of the world. Anyone who follows Me
will never walk in the darkness but will have
the light of life.”

• Light is a symbol of spiritual truth.
• Jesus is the universal answer for people's
need of spiritual truth.

I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will
be saved and will come in and go out and find
pasture.

• “Saved” - restoration and healing; being

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd
lays down his life for the sheep.

• Christ is willing to do all that is necessary to
defend and save the flock.
• The shepherd dies in the place of the sheep.
Christ does likewise.
• “Know” tells us that Jesus has a deep
interest in our welfare.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and
the life. The one who believes in Me, even if
he dies, will live

• Not only is Jesus the source of life, he is the
power over death.
• Jesus is the author or cause of eternal life.
• We will die physically on earth, but our
spirit will never die.
The Way, the Truth, and the Life
(14:6)
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and
the life. No one comes to the Father except
through Me.

• “Way” – the road; the only path that leads
to eternal life.
• “Truth” – the source of truth.
• “Life” – Both here and in eternity.
The True Vine (15:1)
I am the true vine, and My Father is the
vineyard keeper.

• Jesus is the real, genuine source of
nourishment
• We are totally dependent on God for our
very existence;
• We cannot do good apart from Him
