SAR KMS MISSION
Promote effective and efficient SAR programs
through the continuous improvement of shared
search and rescue information across Canada
3
WHAT IS SAR KMS
The Search and Rescue Knowledge Management System
(SAR KMS) is a system of complementary components that:
1. Provide the means for sharing, analyzing, and viewing
comprehensive time-sensitive SAR information across the
Government(s) of Canada; and
2. Builds the foundation for the transition to an integrated
National SAR Information Sharing Network.
4
WHAT WE AIM TO ACHIEVE
SAR KMS aims to achieve three objectives:
1. Support authoritative evidence based policy and program
decisions;
2. Promote more effective and efficient planning, response,
risk and resource management; and
3. Maintain a coordinated, effective, Canadian search and
rescue capability
5
HOW WE WILL DO IT
Key Objectives hinge on availability and richness of SAR
data. Therefore SAR KMS must:
• Capture data from as may sources as possible;
• Augment incident data with public internet sources; and
• Correlate incident data and enable mapping to provide
geo-analysis and a common operating picture
• NOTE that NO privacy related data collected.
6
BENEFIT TO CASARA
The SAR KMS will:
• Support planning activities & funding requests;
• Highlight gaps between reality and goals;
• Provide benchmarking based on best practices;
• Support measurement of system performance;
• Demonstrate results & prudent use of resources; and
• Assist in communicating to the public
7
