• Access to 500 million customers over 27
countries (rather than just the 60 million in
the UK)
• Free movement of good between borders of
27 countries – no payments to import or
export makes trade very attractive
• Free movement of workers between countries
– helps govt objective of full employment
• Grants for poorer countries to help them trade

• European Parliament brought
in lots of tough laws:
• EU food labelling not allowed
to say 8 rashers or a dozen
