"Some stochastic epidemic models in a variable environment"

Abstract:

The focus is on the time to extinction in the stochastic SIS epidemic model when the environment is periodic. The time to extinction grows exponentially with the population size when the basic reproduction number is above 1. Approximate formulas may be obtained for the rate of exponential growth following methods used in the physics literature.

Some ongoing work will also be briefly presented.
