• You are expected to complete an assignment on Atomic and
electronic structure
• Assignments should be completed in a word document and be at least
5 pages of A4 including diagrams
• Any research information should be referenced at the end of your
assignment e.g. name of author, title of book or article, date
published
• Deadline is 5th September 2012

key information to learners about different
ideas in chemistry. You have been asked to
collate information to be used to construct a
poster.

• Using research from internet/scientific journals/books
and define relative atomic mass (Ar) and relative
molecular mass (Mr)
• Give at least 3 examples of elements/compounds stating
the relative atomic mass or relative molecular mass.

• Draw a labelled diagram to show the atomic structure of
atoms
• Produce a table showing the number of protons, number
of electrons and number of neutrons for the following
elements
• Lithium
• Copper
• Sodium

• State Bohr’s Theory of electron energy levels
• Define orbitals and state the different kinds of
orbitals and how many electrons each orbital can
hold
• Describe the order of how electrons fill up the
orbitals

boron, oxygen, magnesium, calcium and chlorine
