To provide quality services and programmes to
enable students with special education needs
achieve their fullest potential

Strcucture of MoE
Gifted and Talented Unit, SEU
formed in 2009
• Mission
To empower the gifted and talented students through
future generations
• Selected teachers (Lead Teachers) are trained to
facilitate the programme
• First cohort in 2009, Yr 6 stds in all primary schools are
identified through the standard procedures
• Total no. of stds = 22 (2009 -2011)
• Considered the top 10% of the country’s best students
• Undergo two national gifted programes, Challenge and
Excel programe.

Challenge and Excel Programme
Aim : To maximise the educational outcomes for the
gifted and talented students
Outcomes:
(a) Meeting the students’ cognitive needs through:i Developing higher order and critical thinking skills
and processes
ii Nurturing creativity
iii Developing skills, processes and the right attitudes
for independent lifelong learning
Challenge and Excel Programme
iv Developing the students’ talents and capabilities to
their full potential, relevant to the social, cultural
and economic aspirations of Brunei Darussalam.
(b) Meeting the students affective needs through:i.
Developing the student’s confidence and self-esteem
ii.
Embracing the desire for personal excellence
iii.
Developing positive attitudes and a right social
conscience and a sense of commitment to contribute to
society
iv.
Cultivating the student’s leadership qualities

Objectives
i. Provide opportunities for highly able students to
utilise their high-order level thinking skills in the area
of Science and Technology

The CERDAS programme
ii. Encourage self-exploratory learning and innovation,
through active investigation and research, as outlined in the
National Education System for the 21st Century (SPN21)
iii. Provide an ‘Open day’ forum to showcase and discuss
students’ research work and results to create awareness as
well as inspire other students and the general public
iv. Increase skills and competency among teachers through
involvement in the professional development sessions
