What is SOLUS3?
• Replaces SOLUS2 – i.e. current “Tools | Check
for updates” way of updating SIMS
• SOLUS3 management console installed on
SIMS Server in school
• All SIMS workstations have an “Agent” installed
on them
• System uses the “Agents” and a network
service to perform new workstation installs and
SIMS updates

SOLUS3 Advantages
• Configured to schedule / perform SIMS updates
• New PC’s have SIMS installed remotely
• Entire SIMS System can be automatically
upgraded without user intervention
• Any Infrastructure needed by SIMS can be
automatically deployed
• The school can see what has or has not been
upgraded
• Upgrades SIMS Discover automatically

SLT’s SOLUS3 solution
• SLT install and configure SOLUS3 in school (visit
or remote session)
• SLT authorise SIMS release, then SOLUS3
deploys onsite from within the school
• SLT will issue “upgrade” notes advising schools
how to deploy each SIMS update
• When finished manually import SIMS reports and
AMPARK if required

Using SOLUS3 - SIMS updates
• Capita release a SIMS update
• We (SLT) authorise it for the school
• School Deployment Server receives the update
from SIMS
• The Deployment Server rolls out update package
to the relevant SIMS agents
• School deploys the update when ready
• The SIMS Agents run the update and install any
supporting infrastructure

What next!
• Managed roll from now out until Autumn 2013
deadline! (MIS Team & TSS)
• Once installed specific notes will be issued with
SIMS updates to all SOLUS3 schools
• No more SIMS SETUPS folder
• New workstations setup differently
