On the eve of my fourth birthday, my father brought home a small but authentic clock radio as an early birthday present.
It had cost him ￥420; no small amount of money at the time. My childhood exuberance and curiosity took
over at that point, and soon after the aforementioned radio was laid in pieces all over our living room. My father
had quietly watched his son dismantle ￥420 worth of sophisticated electrical equipment, but had not said a word.
Instead of punishing me, he sat me down after I was done "playing" with my new toy, and gave me my real
birthday present. Gathering the still-functioning components of the radio, my father began to explain to me the
various functions and utilities of each of the pieces. For hours, I sat enthralled as I experienced my first taste of
electrical engineering. That night, with my father's guidance, I had transformed a radio into a pile of rubbish,
and miraculously, back again. To my inquisitive four year old mind, engineering had become synonymous with
magic that night.

With the passing of academic years, Shi X X continues to amaze me with his
outstanding ability to learn science on his own. He has a solid foundation and
a quick learning capacity. One thing impressed me most is that when he was
absent from school for about 6 months because of the Math Competition in the
United States, he quickly caught up with his peers all by himself. This was
truly a big challenge, for the academic burden at such honored class at High
School Affliated to Fudan University is highly pressured. However, this
outstanding young man withstood the pressure and paid double effort. I do
admire his dedication to study, strong willpower and the courage to conque
hardships.
