RESERVATIONS
– Program for NJROTC Cadets to gain preselected (reserved) scholarships
for NROTC.
–110 Allotted Quotas (10 per NJROTC Area)
–Not available for NURSE or MARINE CORPS OPTIONS!
–Initial Goal: To increase diversity in ROTC accessions
–NJROTC is a nation-wide program with a population that mirrors the
local communities.
–NJROTC is already owned by CNSTC and can (and does!) provide
close coordination of the process
–NJROTC has statistically better grades & attendance in high school,
and looks like slightly better retention in the ROTC program, therefore
predicting higher level of success.

WHAT SNSI’S/NSI’S CAN DO
• SAT/ACT
• Have cadets enroll and complete NJROTC ACT/SAT prep course.
• Take test(s) in junior year. Be creative.
• 4 ENGLISH & MATH COURSES REQUIRED
• Extrapolate courses to be taken in Senior year.
• ON-LINE NROTC SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
• Application available 1 April of Junior year.
• Have cadets complete NLT early in the SENIOR year.
• Ensure recruiter/NRD is receiving and processing required material
for scholarship application.
• No nurse or Marine Corps options.
• CHECK STATUS OF ON-LINE APPLICATION.
• Google “NROTC scholarship status.”
• Need cadets SSN and birth date.
SNSI’S/NSI’S
• Ensure cadets are applying early to the five
colleges/universities listed on their NROTC
scholarship application. Have them think about Crosstowns.
• Manage their expectations! Be realistic about school choices.
• Don’t let them list schools they can’t get admitted to!
• Getting an ASR does not mean you are getting into the
college/NROTC unit you selected first.
• Earlier selection date this year allowed better placement
opportunity.
• If cadet receives ASR and is not placed at desired
university:
• email NROTC OD placement <pnsc_nrotc.placement@navy.mil>
and ask to be put on waiting list for desired university.
Important Reminders!
• IT ONLY WORKS IF YOU USE IT!!
– Don’t be the SNSI who complains when his
Honor Roll/NHS/4.2GPA/Super-star CC
doesn’t get USNA or NROTC, if you didn’t put
him in for ASR in the first place!!
--And-• DON’T SUBMIT THE CADET FOR ASR
IF YOU DON’T RECOMMEND THEM
FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP!!!!
MSISR
• The NROTC Brief covers this in detail but
some salient points:
• If the cadet is willing to consider HBCU (Historically
Black Colleges & Universities) & HHE (High Hispanic
Enrollment)
– Have them check the block on the NROTC
application. Does not eliminate them from national
consideration.
– or – after the January Deadline up through 30 Jun –
print the .pdf file off the NROTC Website and send it
to the MSI NROTC PNS. He will contact you for an
interview.
MSISR
• Like the ASR:
– it is Navy only, no Nurse, no Marine Corps.
– Take the SAT/ACT prior to deadline
– GPA 3.0
• Unlike the ASR:
– Top 40% of high school graduating class
– 4 years of English, 3 Years Math, 3 Years Natural
Science, 2 Years Social Science
Unit Viability
• By this time you should realize that it doesn’t
pay to be non-compliant in enrollment! But be
honest, cooking the books really doesn’t pay!!
• Advertise –
– Inform the school district, school board, city council,
community about what’s occurring in the unit - ASRs,
STEM.
• Ensure you report your enrollment correctly on
1 October report
if 4X4 Block: M+F+New+Returning
for Viability Only
