Problem analysis:




1) School curricula – distanced from reality
2) Teaching Style – directive, non-dialogical,
anachronous
3) Teachers training – inert, reluctant in accepting
professional innovations
4) Cooperation and coordination between
sectors, levels and instances – non-existent and
non-functional
!!! Centralized system and absence of
dialogue and cooperation are blocking
the educational reform
Description of the Action :

Connecting stakeholders in education who are at
present not cooperating– Civil Society Organizations (CSO)
and schools, teachers and artists, decision makers, researchers,
professors, students...
In order to:
 Empower teachers to become agents of educational reform,
 Bring educational practice closer to practice,
 Improve initial teachers’ formation programs,
 Modernize school curricula.

We use drama in education to develop cultural sensitivity
and learning skills of children and the youth in Serbia
Philosophy of change:

2. Teachers in
formal education



1. CSOs practicing
non/formal education
3. Higher Education Institutes
in teachers preparation programs
4. Decision makers
in the field of education
Activities:

Seminars for practicing teachers in schools & youth groups: how to apply
drama within the curriculum, how to devise and perform, how to enhance
tolerance, active citizenship, peer collaboration, attitude development etc.

Collecting best practices, examples, theoretical models – texts, model
descriptions, excerpts from youth productions and publishing them on-line

Researching teachers’ needs for training in creative and applied drama and
publishing the results

Seminars for students – future teachers, in 4 HEIs

Creating teaching & learning tools: the manual “Tolerant Classroom”,
specialized method models for different age groups, plays for school theatre
etc.

Bringing together stakeholders in drama and education - practitioners,
experts and decision makers - around tribunes, round tables and the
conference
Results:
1.
LOTREC – Local Resource Centers for teachers enable:

Training min. 80 teachers per year in application of drama in education
2.
DEGAS - Web platform for education and communication of
teachers using drama in Serbia, enables:

NADEŽDA: a step closer to establishing the National Association of
Drama Educators

RENOIR: research of educators’ needs for early and vocational training in
creative and applied drama – Pedagogical Society of Serbia
3.
SEZAN – Seminars for students – future teachers, in 4 HEIs
4.
MONET - Tribunes, round tables and other dialogical
frameworks discussing curricula reform among practitioners,
experts and decision makers, culminating in:

ARTERY: National conference dedicated to curricular reform in art
education, especially DRAMA
Added value:

Redefining of the social role and the authority of a
teacher is an asset for restoration of the value system in
the Serbian society.

Teachers need to think of their very special position in the
society – the one symbolizing progress, prosperity, culture
and nobility of spirit, while their role of fostering the future
obliges them with honor and incomparable responsibility.
