• All students can learn!
• EQUITABLE means providing what is best
for the individual child.
• Instruction is best delivered through a
variety of models based on student needs
and ability.
• The likelihood of student success is
increased by creating a healthy, insightful
circle of influence in which the child can
learn…that means ME and YOU.
I will teach your children like I would want my
own children to be taught.
I will create a learning environment that
celebrates and respects the differences in each
learner.
You will not see a lot of paperwork –I am always
trying to find different ways for students to
show their learning (sticky notes, anecdotal
notes, discussions, small group learning, etc.).
Show clip with Rita Pierson 1:00 to 3:00
I KNOW that caring and compassionate
relationship development is as critical to
student success as content.
These kids have only been on this planet for
8 or 9 years…they are still learning how to
be people!
The most important thing they can take
away from 4th grade is that school is not
terrible (or boring) and that their teacher
believes in them
and loves them.
 Take a moment to look around the
classroom
 Find all the classroom procedures we
have established to manage the
movement and learning in our
classroom
 We practice, practice, practice!!
 Consistency is KEY!
Knowing WHAT to
do…
and WHEN to do it…
helps us reach our goals!

Homework
Your student will have (almost) nightly
math homework. It will typically be
practice/review of what we have covered
in class recently.
Students should also read each night.
We will have a Reading Log to track our
learning. After the 1st semester, we will
begin having an ELA homework packet
given on Monday and due on Friday (of
most weeks).
Social Studies homework will be
assigned as necessary. Vocabulary and
spelling will be forthcoming.
Students should
review their
multiplication
and division
math facts
EVERY night.
Fluency is the
goal.

How the Clip Chart works:
You will have a clip with your
name on it that you will move
up or down the chart,
depending on your choices.
Remember: you may not move
your clip every single day! In
order to move up, you must go
above and beyond in your
behavior choices. The chart
below explains how the clip
chart works.
Rewards for Good Choices:
Praise (daily)
Positive notes, emails, and phone calls
home (random)
Special “Right Choice” note sent home in
agenda (random)
The joy of learning (every moment of
every day!)
The satisfaction in making good choices!
Once you receive a certain number of level RED days in
your agenda, you will be eligible for the following
rewards:
In the 1st Quarter, for every ten (10) level RED days,
you may select one (1) fun experience listed below.
In the 2nd Quarter, you must have twelve (12) level
RED days to select a fun experience.
In the 3rd quarter, you must have fourteen (14) level
RED days.
In the 4th quarter, you must have sixteen (16) level
RED days.
