Founded in 1995 by the National Association of
Community Health Centers, Community HealthCorps
is the largest health-focused, national AmeriCorps
program that promotes healthcare for America’s
underserved, while developing tomorrow’s healthcare
workforce.
The mission of Community HealthCorps is to improve
healthcare access and enhance workforce
development for community health centers through
national service programs.
The vision of Community HealthCorps is to become a
national service pipeline for careers in community
health centers that is improving access to necessary
primary and preventative care services for the
medically underserved.

LIVING ON THE AMERICORPS STIPEND TRAINING
• Overview: 60 minute workshop (suggested time) identifying the
importance of budgeting, affordable lifestyle options and other
best practices for living & thriving on an AmeriCorps stipend.
• Best Uses: During PSO or at a team training at the beginning of
the service year to present the big picture and key tools for living
on a modest stipend throughout the service year

ORIENTATION TO COMMUNITY HEALTHCORPS
• Overview: PowerPoint presentation catered for a Community
HealthCorps member audience providing an overview of the
national service movement, AmeriCorps and Community
HealthCorps.
• Best Uses: This presentation should be conducted at the
beginning of PSO, to give Members a basic overview of
Community HealthCorps, its structure, regulations, expectations,
etc.

RX FOR SUCCESS
• Overview: Mandatory Training Curriculum separated into 10 key
topics. Program Sites are encouraged to develop their own
trainings/ invite external speakers (health center CEOs,
clinicians, local professors, Community HealthCorps alumni), etc.
to make the training material as relevant as possible to each
Program Site/ Service Locations. Deadlines for completion found
in Member Training Guidance.
• Best Uses: Community HealthCorps curriculum best used as a
starting point to develop trainings on each of the ten topics.

SPOKESPERSON TRAINING I:
ELEVATOR SPEECH TRAINING
• Overview: 90 minute training on how to create and deliver an
effective elevator speech to relevant audiences as a Community
HealthCorps Member and alum.
• Best Uses: It is highly recommended that this training is
conducted one to two months into the service term, so
Members have an understanding of the program model and can
integrate initial service experiences in their elevator speeches.

GREAT STORY TRAINING
• Overview: 90 minute training identifying the purpose and use of
Community HealthCorps Great Stories as well as providing
instructions on how to create impactful Great Stories.
• Best Uses: It is highly recommended that this training is
conducted one to two months into the service term, so
Members have an understanding of the program model and can
integrate initial service experiences in their elevator speeches.

PRE/POST REFLECTION TOOL
• Overview: A handout template to assist with coordination of pre
and post reflection activities for team trainings, team days,
service days, etc.
• Best Uses: This tool is best used by Program Coordinators or
Members (leading a service day/ team day) to gauge initial
expectations and post reactions (of Community HealthCorps
Members or volunteer participants) to a team event or large
scale service project.

trainings, team meetings, service days, etc.

• Overview: 70 minute workshop (suggested time) focused on
identifying key leadership and communication styles of each
Member on the team and relating it to the personal
development, team dynamic and the overall service experience.

encourage effective team communication and support OR
during the mid-point of the year to enhance team understanding
especially during the “team storming” phase
