Year 13 Expectations
Target of 90% attendance – ATTENDANCE + ATTITUDE = ATTAINMENT
Students will self manage/self track progress throughout the year.
Students arrive in Year 13 with a focused attitude to succeed to the best of their
ability.
BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE.
Level 3
60 credits at level 3 or above
+ 20 credits from level 2 or above
EXAMPLE
◦ Student has 83 credits at level 2 and 58 at level 3.
◦ They can carry over 20 credits from level 2 so they would have (20+58) 78
credits towards level 3. They would still be 2 credits short for Level 3.
Recap on Subject Selection
All students doing a full level 3 timetable must select 5 subjects and 1 study line.
Students can choose 6 subjects but this must be discussed with the Deans first.
Students doing Trades/Gateway or completing level 2 subjects will still have to
choose 6 subjects.
Trades students will have a specific timetable created for them – until they are
confirmed onto the two day trades course they can select their subjects as
though they were doing 6 normal in school subjects.
Level 3
Merit and Excellence Endorsed
50 Credits at Excellence = Excellence Endorsed
50 credits at Merit or Excellence = Merit Endorsed
Course Endorsement (Subject Specific)
14 credits at Merit or Excellence = Course Endorsed
Includes at least 3 internal credits and 3 external.
Subject Scholarships
Students will have an opportunity to sit a scholarship exam.
These are additional exams that students opt in
The scholarships can be taken in all subjects.
Each successful scholarship can be worth at least $500
It is aimed at high achieving students as a way of extending excellence and
preparation for future high level academic study.
NCEA Level 3 – University Entrance
Three subjects at Level 3, made up of:
◦ 14 credits each, in three approved subjects. Eg English, Maths,
Physical Education, Sciences etc…..,
Literacy - 10 credits at Level 2 or above made up of:
◦ 5 credits in reading
◦ 5 credits in writing
◦ Auckland University for 2016 will require 17 English Credits as
their UE Literacy requirement.

NCEA Level 3 – University Entrance
Numeracy - 10 credits at Level 1 or above, made up of:
◦ Achievement Standards – Specified Achievement Standards available through
a range of subjects.
or
◦ Unit Standards - Package of three numeracy unit standards (26623, 26626,
26627- all three required).
Guaranteed Entry Rank Score
A Rank Score is being added to UE requirement to enable universities to select
students into courses.

15 x 2 = 30
24 x 3 = 72
41 x 4 = 164

Student B has :
60 Achieved credits, 10 Merit credits, 10 Excellence credits
60 x 2 = 120
10 x 3 = 30
10 x 4 = 40
Total = 190
