SHORT SYNOPSIS:
The movie is set in the border country between Norway and Sweden, where we meet a bunch of scruffy
guys; Oscar, Thor, Billy and Tresko (The Clog), who share a criminal past. They are working in a
strange factory in the middle of nowhere producing plastic Christmas trees. But they are also gamblers.
Like most people they never win anything, until now! This is the story of that time they actually won
1.739.361 Norwegian Kroner, a number that proves impossible to divide into four equal parts… and that
is when the fun begins!
SYNOPSIS
Oscar Svendsen wakes up, terrified and bloodied, a shotgun in his hands, in what was once a
respectable strip joint near Svinesund, Sweden. He is surrounded by eight bodies, and police detective
Solør has a gun aimed at his chest. Solør is convinced of his guilt, but Oscar persistently denies any
wrongdoing.
Reluctantly Oscar starts relating the incredible story of four men who won top prize in a soccer pool and
suddenly found themselves 1,739,361 kroner richer. But it turned out to be difficult to divide the money
by four.
Jackpot is an exciting, playful and bloody comedy from the producer of Cold Prey. It is based on a story
by Norway's leading crime writer, Jo Nesbø. We meet a group of scruffy young men, all of them with a
criminal background. Oscar (Kyrre Hellum), Thor (Mads Ousdal), Billy (Arthur Berning) and Tresko
(Andreas Cappelen). They work at a factory in the middle of nowhere that makes plastic Christmas
trees. And they bet on soccer …
The cast also includes such names as Henrik Mestad, Lena Kristin Ellingsen, Fridtjov Såheim, Anne
Marie Ottersen, Jan Grønli and Peter Andersson.
Jackpot is produced by Fantefilm and distributed by Nordisk Film Distribusjon. The film has been
directed by Magnus Martens.
CAST
Kyrre Hellum is Oscar
Kyrre Hellum (born 1973) has played in several films and TV series. He was last seen as a bike
messenger in Pernille Sørensen's comedy series on NRK Åse tonight (2011), and as a gang member in
the feature film Brødre (2011). He can be seen in films such as Tomme Tønner 2 – Det brune gullet
(2011), The Liverpool Goalie (2010), Magic Silver (2009), North (2009), Fatso (2008), House of Fools
(2007) and Tommy's Inferno (2005). He has also played in the TV series Himmelblå (season 3, NRK,
2010), Honningfellen (NRK, 2009) and Ran (TV2, 2005).

Mads Ousdal is Thor
Mads Ousdal (born 1970) is known from a number of roles in theater, film and TV series, including
Codename Hunter (TV2, 2007/2008), Svarte penger, hvite løgner (NRK, 2004), Norwegian Ninja
(2010), I et speil, i en gåte (2008), The Greatest Thing (2001), Detektor (2000) and Bryllupet (2000). He
has been employed by the National Theater for a number of years and worked for some time at
Torshovteatret. In the spring of 2011 he played the lead in Enron at Det Norske Teatret, a docu-drama
about the last recession. In 2010 he directed the summer cabaret Pia + Espen = Sommer in Stavanger.
Arthur Berning is Billy
Arthur Berning (born 1987) made his mark as Helge Ombo in The Man Who Loved Yngve (2008).
Since his film debut he has played in films such as Cold Prey III (2010), Hidden (2009), and Rottenetter
(2009). This fall he can also be seen in the feature film Turn Me On, Goddammit (2011).
Andreas Cappelen is Tresko
Andreas Cappelen (born 1972) has a background from various school theaters and revue stages, and
has also been in several Norwegian films over the past few years, including Varg Veum – Buried Dogs
(2008), Cold Prey II (2008), The Man Who Loved Yngve (2008), O’Horten (2007), Pitbullterje (2005)
and Monster Thursday (2004). He also played in the NRK series Luftens helter (NRK 2007).
Henrik Mestad is Police Detective Solør
Henrik Mestad (born 1964) has had a number of roles in theater and film since his acting debut at the
National Theater in 1991. On stage he has been seen in Ibsen plays such as The Vikings at Helgeland,
A Doll's House, Little Eyolf and The Wild Duck. He played Ask Burlefot in Lasso Around The Moon and
Johannes in Hamsun's Victoria. His film debut was in Åpen framtid (1983) and he is also remembered
as animal-rights activist Marius in Rebels With a Cause (1992) and pedophile Hans in Sons (2006)
which won him an Amanda award for Best Supporting Actor. On TV he has been in series such as
Vestavind (1994), O.J. – ut på prøve and O.J. – på nye eventyr (1994/1995). Mestad has also been in
such films as ORPS – The Movie (2009), Varg Veum – Yours Until Death (2008), Night of the Wolf
(2008), The Radio Pirates (2007), Gone with the Woman (2007), Reprise (2006), The Art of Negative
Thinking (2006) and United (2001).
Lena Kristin Ellingsen is Trine
Lena Kristin Ellingsen (born 1980) had her acting breakthrough as Karoline in the NRK series
Himmelblå. She graduated from the Oslo Academy of Theater in 2004 and has also studied musical
theater at Bårdar Akademiet. Since graduating she has worked at Riksteatret, Oslo Nye Teater, Det
Norske Teatret and Teatret Vårt in Molde, among others. She won a Best Actress prize for her role in
Himmelblå at the Gullruten award show in 2009. Lena was also in the NRK series Norwegian Cozy
(NRK 2010).
Fridtjov Såheim is Gjedde
Fridtjov Såheim (born 1968) is an actor, director and screenwriter and is known from significant roles in
a number of films and TV series: Home For Christmas (2010), Liverpool's Goalie (2010), En god
nummer to (TV2, 2009), Together (2009), Rottenetter (2009), Cold Prey II (2008), Varg Veum – Fallen
Angels (2008), Sørgekåpen (NRK 2007), The Radio Pirates (2007), House of Fools (2008), The Art of
Negative Thinking (2006), Comrade Pedersen (2006) and Hawaii, Oslo (2004). He has also had a
number of significant roles on stage at the National Theater, Den Nationale Scene and Rogaland
Teater, among others.
DIRECTOR
Magnus Martens made his mark as director and screenwriter of the film United (2003). Since then he
has directed several films, including Folk flest bor i Kina (2001 – one of several directors), Svein and
the Rat (2006) and the TV series Uti vår hage with Harald Eia, Bård Tufte Johansen and Atle Antonsen
(2003).

DIRECTORS STATEMENT
In all essence Jackpot is all about greed. Greed is scary and brings out the worst in people, but greed
can also be hilarious. Jackpot tries to explore both these worlds. Coming from a background of pure
comedy, this time I wanted to dig into something slightly else. Given the opportunity to work with
material from Jo Nesbo, the “something else” was pretty obvious: crime.
It was also pretty obvious that I could finally dive into most of my favourite films of the ´90s. No – my
inspirations are really not that hard to spot, but hey: I´m greedy too. So: it´s a crime-comedy then?
Probably. In making Jackpot I wasn´t thinking genre. What I always knew, though: I wanted to make a
film that forced me into trying to constantly look for balance. Balance between comedy and hard-hitting
crime, bleakness and warmth, character and plot, smart and stupid. Scary and hilarious. I guess
Jackpot is the film I wanted to make in the 90´s but couldn´t.

Jackpot is produced by Martin Sundland and Are Heidenstrøm at Fantefilm Fiksjon. The company was
established in 2006 and has as its stated goal to produced entertainment films with broad appeal. The
company has, among other films, produced the three Cold Prey films. Cold Prey II set a new Norwegian
box-office record with 101,621 tickets sold on opening weekend. All told the Cold Prey films have sold
700,000 tickets at the Norwegian box office.
