Psalm 1
How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.
4 The wicked are not so,
But they are like chaff which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the wicked will perish (NASB).
The Blessed Man Does Not…
“walk in the counsel of the
wicked”
“stand in the path of
sinners”
“sit in the seat of scoffers”
(Psalm 1:1).
“Walk” refers to our “way of life”, how we live
I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in
a manner worthy of the calling to which you have
been called, (Ephesians 4:1 ESV)
Now this I say and testify in the Lord, that you must
no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of
their minds.(Ephesians 4:17 ESV)
“Counsel” refers to what others try to instill in us
“Ungodly” are those uninfluenced by God
And they say, “How can God know?
Is there knowledge in the Most High?”
Behold, these are the wicked;
always at ease, they increase in riches.
(Psalm 73:11-12 ESV)

The Blessed Man Does Not…

“Standing” in their path is to “occupy their ground”
Disaster pursues sinners, but the righteous are
rewarded with good. (Proverbs 13:21 ESV)
Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the
fear of the LORD all the day. (Proverbs 23:17 ESV)
One who engages in any “work of the flesh” is standing
in the path of sinners, occupying their ground.
Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual
immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery,
enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries,
dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and
things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before,
that those who do such things will not inherit the
kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19-21 ESV)

Using intoxicants
One who engages in any “work of the flesh” is standing
in the path of sinners, occupying their ground.
Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in
the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever
abides in the teaching has both the Father and the
Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this
teaching, do not receive him into your house or give
him any greeting, for whoever greets him takes part
in his wicked works. (2 John 1:9-11 ESV)
