Introduction

There is no new water on Earth - all the water there ever
will be is already here

*The monetary value of Non revenue Water is estimated to
be valued at over $18 billion per year

Water production and treatment companies globally are
major consumers of energy

Accurate measurement of water is becoming increasingly
important:

Future abundant supply of water cannot be guaranteed

Increased pressures caused by rising populations


AquaProbe has become the insertion type
portable flowmeter of choice, setting the
industry standard and being found in
demanding applications everywhere

It is the acknowledged, accurate and
economic alternative to full bore metering

AquaProbe now works with WaterMaster
transmitter and is known as AquaProbe
FEA100

AquaProbe also works with AquaMaster 3
transmitter where it is known as AquaProbe
FEA200, extending the choice of power


The two versions of the AquaProbe are
positioned as two separate products

Many water applications today are in large
lines and require accurate measuring devices
to monitor water usage. The AquaProbe
family provides a cost effective alternative to
full-bore meters, as well as an option to
perform surveys on existing lines and meters

With the flexibility that both AquaProbe
models provide for temporary and permanent
installations, this insertion probe flowmeter is
a valuable addition to ABB’s comprehensive
line of flow measurement products


The AquaProbe FEA100 is more suited
to permanent installations, because it is
primarily a mains operated unit

It is a robust and cost effective
flowmeter that is especially well-suited
to large pipe diameters

With 4 -20mA, Profibus DP v1 and
HART communication outputs as
options, the AquaProbe can easily be
integrated with other existing
instruments


The AquaProbe FEA200 is far more
suited to operate as a temporary
flowmeter, because of its battery
powered option facilitates it’s use as a
field monitoring device

With the built in logging function, the
unit can be installed in series with an
existing flowmeter to monitor the
flowmeter over a period of time

The built in logging function allows flow
and pressure data to be collected for
analysis and evaluation. The option of
transmitting data via SMS, removes the
need to visit the unit regularly.


‘Hot tap’ capability so that it can be
installed quickly, easily and
conveniently, without interrupting the
water supply. The meter can initially be
installed via a hot tap system, under full
working pressure conditions, without the
need to shut down the system.
Thereafter the meter can be inserted &
removed under pressure

Ease of Operation fitting to existing
pipelines without the need for the major,
expensive and time consuming
excavations or alterations associated
with full bore meters. The ability of the
AquaProbe to be installed in remote
locations with its battery power supply
makes it simple to install in the most
arduous of environments


‘Unrivalled on Accuracy. The accuracy and consistency
of measurement of the AquaProbe is why it’s the insertion
flowmeter of choice for many water and waste water
companies

At +/- 2% of Rate, which can be maintained for years
without the need for recalibration, the meter exhibits
exemplary accuracy over a wide operating flow range in
both forward and reverse directions. This means that it is
highly versatile instrument, both for peak daytime and low
night time flow rates

Speed, ease & security in the field, Sensor Memory
eliminates the need to match sensor and transmitter in the
field. Self configuration sequence eases start-up

AquaProbe coding

AquaProbe is specified using new product codes in line
with ABB common coding

AquaProbe will be coded as FEA and the transmitter
will either be FEA100 For AquaProbe with WaterMaster
transmitter or

FEA200 for AquaProbe with AquaMaster 3 transmitter

Below is an extract of how coding appears

On Board Remote Communications
Package with SMS

AquaProbe FEA200 is available with a
multichannel, multivariable logger that
can record both flow and pressure via a
direct digital transfer of data, thereby
ensuring optimum accuracy and
resolution of measurement.

Coupled with remote communication via
SMS, allows the AquaProbe to be
installed in very remote locations and to
send data back via Quad band
GSM/SMS from the field to the customer,
either on a daily basis, or on demand


Pressure Transducer option available

AquaProbe can also return pressure
information, from a secondary pressure
transducer which is available from ABB

The customer can survey the pressure in
a line and can be used for zonal
surveying and leak detection.

With a pressure drop over time, it is very
likely that there is a leak in the pipeline
