• Network coverage is generally adequate.
Actions should focus on:

Substantially improve the state of repair.

Address changes in standards, increasing percentage of superior
quality road surfaces.

Eliminate bridges with load limitations.

Reduce points of conflict, particularly through reducing passage
through population centers.

Commercial port facilities
• Montevideo is the country’s main commercial port with
annual movements of 10 million metric tons, 500,000
passengers and 100 cruise ships.
• The port serves: containers, general cargo, bulk items,
warehouses of logistics activities, fishing, passenger transport
and cruise ships.
• Nueva Palmira is the second largest port. Focusing on bulk
cargo and cellulose paste, the port handles 6 million metric
tons annually.
• Colonia is the main passenger port with 2 million passengers
per year.
