The city stands at an elevation of
approximately 1,400 metres (4,600 ft) in the
bowl-shaped valley in central Nepal
surrounded by four major mountains, namely:
Shivapuri, Phulchowki, Nagarjun and
Chandragiri

Perched upon Marpo Ri hill, 130 meters above the Lhasa
valley, the Potala Palace rises a further 170 meters and
is the greatest monumental structure in all of Tibet. Early
legends concerning the rocky hill tell of a sacred cave,
considered to be the dwelling place of the Bodhisattva
Chenresi (Avilokiteshvara)
Lhasa has many sites of historic interest, including the Potala Palace, Jokhang
Temple, Sera Monastery, Zhefeng Temple, Drepung Monastery and
Norbulingka.

Lhatse (Quxar), is a small town of a few
thousand people in Tibet, 151 km
southwest of Shigatse, and just west of the
mountain pass leading to it. Lhatse is
4,050 m. (13,287 ft) above sea-level

Day 6
24 June…thursday
Saga (happy land) is an army town with a
Chinese garrison which patrols the whole
length of the Tibetan-Nepalese border

Day 7
25 June…friday
Beyond Prayang, there are several river crossings to
negotiate before we see our first view of Mount Kailash
from Horr Chu Pass. We then arrive at the beautiful
Lake Manasarovar, just 30km south of Mt Kailash

26 June …saturday
Fullmoon Day at the Lake

Day 9
27 June…sunday
Lake Manasarovar lies at 4,556 m (14947.5 ft) above
mean sea level, making it the highest fresh-water lake
in the world. [It is relatively round in shape with a
circumference of 88 kilometres (55 mi). Its depth is
90 m (300 ft) and its surface area is 320 square
kilometres (120 sq mi). Manasarovar is the source of
the Sutlej River which is the easternmost large tributary
of the Indus. Nearby are the sources of the
Brahmaputra River, the Indus River, and the Karnali
River (Ghaghara) which is an important tributary of the
Ganges River

It is believed in spiritual
circles that there are so
many Physical Immortals
around this place
Darchen is located beneath the majestic holy
Mount Kailash, a small village with couple of
guest houses. During the auspicious pilgrimage
time, this place will be flooded with Pilgrims with
hundreds of tents all around. Darchen, the
beginning and end point of the Kora

All thru the Parkrama…one will
be seeing the Mt Kailash
Day 11
29 June…tuesday
Those who cannot take Parikrama can
stay back at Darchen and can spend time
for visiting some nearby places…the crew
will be split to take care
Everyone comes to Kailash to walk the
kora, the sacred circuit around the
mountain, which is probably the world's
best walk
Kailash Parikrama starts from Darchen …Yamadwar to Dira-puk
Day 12
30 June…wednesday
The word Kailāśā means "crystal" in Sanskrit.
The Tibetan name for the mountain is Gangs
Rin-po-che, meaning "precious jewel of snows".
Another local name for the mountain is Tisé…
mountain, which derives from ti tse in the ZhangZhung language, meaning "water peak" or "river
peak".
Second day of the parikrama…the tough
part…to Zutul-phuk via Dolmala pass
Day 13
1st July…thursday
According to Hinduism, Lord Shiva, the
destroyer of evil and sorrow, resides at the
summit of a legendary mountain named
Kailāśā, where he sits in a state of
perpetual meditation along with his wife
Pārvatī, the daughter of Himalaya.
Short trek and drive to Darchen
Day 14
2nd July…friday
A great mass of black rock soaring to over
22,000 feet, Mt. Kailash has the unique
distinction of being the world's most venerated
holy place at the same time that it is the least
visited. The supremely sacred site of four
religions and billions of people, Kailash is seen
by no more than a few thousand pilgrims each
year

Day 15
3rd July…saturday
Milarepa's Cave or Namkading Cave is a
cave where the great Tibetan Buddhist
philosopher, and Vajrayana Mahasiddha,
Milarepa spent many years of his life in the
eleventh century, 11 km north of the town
of Nyalam, below the roadside and above
the Matsang river in Nyalam County, Tibet
Drive from Saga to Nyalam
and visit to Milarepa’s Cave
Day 16
4th July…sunday
Zhangmu or Nepali: Khasa), is a customs
town and port of entry located in Nyalam
County on the Nepal - Tibet border, just
uphill and across the Bhote Kosi River from
the Nepalese town of Koda
Arriving Zhangamu…clearance of
chinese immigration and driveback
to Kathmandu
Day 17
5th July…Monday
Departure and
transfer to the
airport at
Kathmandu
