LTO-6 has an 2.5:1 compression ratio due to changes
in the ‘History Buffer’

1KB History Buffer
Giving a typical compression ratio of 2:1
LTO-6 will use a 16KB History Buffer
Giving a typical compression ratio of 2.5:1
What this means?

As all data received by the drive goes into the history buffer
LTO-1 through LTO-5 can only contain the most recent 1024
bytes and this limits the opportunities for a compression data
“match”
Whereas LTO-6 offers a 16x improvement in the opportunity to
find a data “match”
Note that the actual compression rate achieved
will be vary according to the incidence of
duplicate data
