RICCARDO CAMBRI, born in Orvieto, still very young began his musical
studies in his native city, then on to Perugia under the guidance of Maestro
Riccardo Marini, becoming one of the best pianists trained at the prestigious
Conservatory of Music “F. Morlacchi” in Perugia. In October 1994, he obtained
a Diploma in piano, with praise and honor mention. The jury cited him "with
exceptional appreciation for the quality of his performances", having performed
a program of particularly virtuous pieces including the rare Sonata op.106
“Hammerklavier” of Beethoven and “Islamey” of Balakirev, absent for more
than forty years in the “F. Morlacchi” Diploma programs. Winner of many
Italian Piano Competitions (Torre Orsaia 1993, San Gemini 1994, Genzano in
Rome 1995 and San Giovanni Valdarno 2001), began a successful solo career
and he was distinguished for his performances of Beethoven’s “Piano Concert
in B flat major, Op. 19”, and Mozart’s “Piano Concerto in d minor, KV. 466”
with the Symphonic Orchestra of Perugia directed by Giuliano Silveri.
Invited by Italian Institute of Culture, he held an acclaimed Recital in Budapest
(Hungary) in the Great Hall of the Hungarian Parliament, and thereafter began
to perform regularly in different European cities.
In 1995 he attended the HochSchule of Mozarteum in Salsburg (Austria) with
M° Boris Bloch and M° Alfons Kontasky, participating in the famous “AkademieKonzert” final at the Leopold Salle, to continue, immediately after, the study of
piano technique in Ferenc Liszt Academy in Budapest.
In June 1998, he obtained the Diploma for Advanced Studies in Piano from the
Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, after three year courses under
the guidance of the well known performer and teacher M° Sergio Perticaroli.
He continued to improve as a musician by attending Master Classes taught by
well-known pianists, such as Antonio Ballista, Elio Maestosi, Franco Scala and
Leonid Margarius.
As vocal coach and accompanist of opera singers he collaborates with the
soprano Isabel Gentile and the baritone Roberto Abbondanza in recitals and in
Advanced Master Classes in Opera and Chamber singing held in Italy and
Europe.
As accompanist he also plays chamber repertoire in collaboration with wellknown instrumentalists, opera singers, prose and theatre actors, giving
concerts and taking seminars in numerous music festivals.
He collaborated with Dr. Ingo Herrmann, famous laryngologist, within a
medical research program on vocal emission in opera singers. The program
was registered and transmitted on satellite TV channels.
Currently he is engaged in teaching activities as principal piano teacher at the
“Adriano Casasole” School of Music in Orvieto. He also runs courses in listening
training and music education in all types of schools (primary, middle and high
schools).
Recently, his verve interpretation led him to expand the repertoire beyond
classical schemes with performances at International Jazz events that earned
him great praise, especially for his improvisations on themes of Italian music.
In 2002 in Castel Viscardo, under auspices of the local Municipal
Administration, he set up an “Advanced Summer Course for Musical
Interpretation” for which he was appointed Artistic Director. These courses, still
fully active once a year, represent one of the most relevant and highly
qualified Educational Music events in the Orvieto area.
Since 2006 he has been the artistic consultant of Festival Valentiniano,
International Chamber Music Festival, held in Rome and Orvieto, directed by
the famous orchestra director M° Carlo Frajese.
Since October 2007, on behalf of the “Adriano Casasole” School of Music of
Orvieto, he has been leading the Chamber Music Workshop for pianists, aimed
to young students who want to deepen their knowledge of the repertoire for
four hands and two pianos.
In April 2011, the orchestra director M° Jorge Uliarte invited him to play, in
representation of Italy, to the Festival Internacional de Ushuaia, one of the
most important events in the world, devoted to classical music, held in “Tierra
del fuego”, in Argentinian Patagonia. There, he got an extraordinary success as
Mozart’s soloist in a concert performed together with the Moscow Symphony
Orchestra directed by M° Pablo Dzodan.
In July 2011, he was called to inaugurate, at the Mancinelli Theater of Orvieto,
the Primo Festival Internazionale di musica classica Orvieto Ushuaia Classica,
together with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra directed by M° Jorge Uliarte.
In April 2012, invited by the President of Malta Dr. George Abela, he gave a
piano recital at San Anton Palace in Valletta, for the inauguration of the
Grandmasters' Hall, dedicated to the Grand Masters of the Sovereign Military
and Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem.
In the years 2012 and 2013, together with Dr. Alberto Romizi, under the
auspices of the “Associazione Culturale Pediatri” of the Regione Umbria and
Unicef, Maestro Cambri introduced the project “Concert for an unborn baby” as
part of the wider prospect of “Born for Music”. This Concert is a piano recital
specifically dedicated to pregnant women, some of whom undergo tridimensional ultrasound scan during the show, in order to monitor the effects of
music on the fetus.
In October of 2013 has participated, together with his scholars, to the official
celebrations of the bicentennial of Giuseppe Verdi’s birth, performing an
outstanding concert at Casa Verdi in Milan.
Even the critics have expressed about him flattering reviews:
“Ten minutes of applause of a packed audience have ruled the success of the
young pianist of Orvieto”
(Corriere dell’Umbria, 24-5-2001)
“Riccardo Cambri, a great young promising pianist, was applauded and
praised”
(La Nazione, 27-5-2001)
“In the famous Sonata ‘Moonlight’ by Beethoven, the pianist ... made the third
movement with dramatic intensity really amazing, even for the largest display
of virtuosity presented”
(Corriere di Viterbo, 11-10-2001)
“The Orvieto pianist Cambri … showed a high class pianistic style, able to bring
out the various moods of the music from the most intimate to the most
dazzling and robust”
(Corriere dell’Umbria, 24-11-2002)
“The difficult final piece, the ‘Isle Joyeuse’ of Debussy (author to whom the
Orvieto pianist is emerging as an interpreter of reference) were made with a
mastery of technical excellence that has sparked the enthusiasm of the
spectators"
(Corriere dell’Umbria, 29-11-2003)
“ … Highly appreciated, among others, the ‘Improvvisi’ Op. 90 of Schubert,
which were played with a naturalness and a digital amazing agility, and the
‘Fantasie’ Op. 116 of Brahms, which seem to fit perfectly the pathos and the
interpretative abilities of Cambri"
(Corriere di Viterbo, 28-12-2004)
“ … Not to be neglected the instrumental abilities of Cambri, worthy successor
of the Maestro Sergio Perticaroli Roman school of piano, who once again
proves to be a piano virtuoso, the roaring of the third movement Fantasia Op.
28 by Mendelssohn and the plasticity of touch in the ‘Fantasia cromatica and
Fuga’ by Bach can testify”
(Corriere dell’Umbria, 29-10-2006)
“ … The highlight of the evening was represented from the performance of
‘Rhapsody in Blue’ of George Gershwin, in which a soloist like the exceptional
pianist Riccardo Cambri performed. He confirmed to be a pianist with a solid
and bright technique, performing flawlessly in the rugged rhythms of skill
designed by Gershwin”
(La Nazione, 13-02-2007)
“ … The difficult score of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, in which the Maestro
Riccardo Cambri has shone as a soloist at the piano, author of a fine piano
reading of the original text”
(La Città, May 2007)
“ … Among the most interesting Debussy’s interpreters of his generation”
(Obiettivo Saviano, October 2009)
“… Al piano se desempeñó Riccardo Cambri, de Orvieto (Italia). Su producción
fue notable, de gran toque y precisión, musicalmente digna del mayor elogio,
alcanzando la belleza contenida en todo el Concierto ... éste tuvo la gentileza
de tocar, fuera de programa, una versión libre de ‘Alfonsina y el mar’ de A.
Ramirez, de una manera que no dejó corazón indiferente”
(El Diario, 07-04-2011)
“M° Riccardo Cambri is very successful in Argentina” … “Before an audience of
more than 600 spectators, among whom numerous political authorities, the
Orvieto pianist put on an excellent performance … A five-minute standing
ovation … ”
(La Nazione, 13-05-2011)
“… Cambri showed off his piano-playing skills enchanting the Argentinian
audience
in two concerts, for which he received a long standing ovation” (Il Vicino,
October 2011)
