How will the money be spent?
Tesco has committed to raising £10 million for Diabetes UK through the national
partnership. This is a fantastic amount of money that will help us to carry out activities
that would not have been possible without the partnership.
•A massive funding boost for research that could lead to a future without Type 1
diabetes, which currently affects 300,000 people across the UK, with many developing
the condition in childhood.
• The biggest ever campaign to get people screened for Type 2 diabetes. There are 7
million people at high risk, who need advice and support to prevent the condition
developing. Risk assessments in Tesco pharmacies and online followed up with
information on how to stop the condition developing will ensure the partnership plays a
key role in turning back the rising tide of Type 2 diabetes.
• Life-changing support for around a million people living with the condition, so they feel
less scared and isolated by their condition. This will be through easy-to-use information
packs, face to face advice at Living with Diabetes Days, and the expansion of our
dedicated Careline that will give people the help they need and deserve.
