Gandhi changed the world because he fought for and won rights for
Indian people. This is the story of how he grew up and became a hero…

born in Pobander, a town in Kathiawar Agency.
When he was born his dad, Karamchand
Gandhi, served as the diwan (chief minister). His

community called Pranani Vaishnava. She was
Karamchand 4th wives. The other 3 died in child
birth.

women named Kasturba Makanji. At
Gandhi’s time you could get married at 13.
He was married in May 1883. Gandhi missed
a year at school in the process of doing that.

lived a few days. His dad also had died earlier

Salt March

protests. One of his most successful ones was
the Salt March. He did it so he could make
the British stop taxing salt. He walked 241
miles collecting salt. Lot of people joined
Gandhi because they thought it was
ridiculous that the British were taxing salt.
Fasting (Not Eating)
Since Gandhi was treated badly by the British
he would not eat. People started to do the same
thing. The British couldn’t do anything about
it. His most popular fast was the Rajkot fast. It
was the longest time he had fasted, and, he did
it in Rajkot.

Gandhi died on January 30, 1948 (aged 78) in
