Eit ÉCONOMUSÉE er ei handverksbedrift
som er valt ut på grunn av sitt engasjement for
kvalitet og autentisk arbeid. Handverksbedrifta
skaper sitt eige driftsgrunnlag ved å produsere
brukarvenlege produkt laga etter tradisjonelle
metodar og teknikkar, og ved å tilby kvalitetssikra
kulturelle opplevingar til alle besøkande.
Konseptet er utvikla i Quebec. ÉCONOMUSÉEnettverket, med medlemsbedrifter frå Canada
og fleire nordeuropeiske land, er eit samarbeid
mellom bedrifter som er interesserte i å ta vare på
og formidla tradisjonell dugleik og kunnskap til
komande generasjonar.

Developed in Quebec, an ÉCONOMUSÉE is
an artisan trade or food product operation which
has been selected because of its commitment
to quality and authenticity. The artisan
business owner makes a living by supplying
contemporary products created according to
traditional methods and techniques, as well
as by offering visitors a high quality cultural
tourism experience.
With members in Quebec and other Canadian
provinces as well as in several Northern European
countries, the ÉCONOMUSÉE network is made
up of artisan businesses that are interested in
conserving and passing on traditional skills to
future generations.

Alle handverkarane ved skofabrikken er
involverte i heile prosessen med å skape dei
beste Aurlandsko og andre relaterte lærprodukt
basert på kvalitet og tradisjon. Dei vil saman
kunne gi deg ei stor og lærerik oppleving når du
vitjar Aurlandskoen éCONOMUSée.
Fabrikken er representant for ein viktig del
av industrihistoria og kulturhistoria i Noreg.
Skofabrikken ligg sentralt til på Aurlandsvangen
og vart bygd som eit kombinert bustad og
produksjonslokale, noko det har vore tradisjon
for å gjere i Aurland.
Utstillingsområdet og butikken er i fyrste
høgd. Kjellaretasjen vert i dag brukt som
produksjonslokale. Her kan du oppleve heile
produksjonsprosessen; frå læret blir skore til,
slipt, sydd og til solen blir limt på. Her føregår
også belteproduksjon.

This team of artisan shoemakers are dedicated
to the production of the exclusive Aurland shoe
and other related leather artefacts of quality and
tradition. Together they make your visit to the

shoemaker ÉCONOMUSÉE into a learning
experience of their craft.
The Aurland Shoe workshop, represents an
important part of the industrial and cultural
history of Norway. It is located in the centre of
the village og Aurland, close to the sea and it is
a combined home and workshop, which was a
common arrangement in Aurland.
The exhibition area and shop is on the first
floor, whereas the ground floor showcases the
production process. Here you can learn all
about the production; from the cutting, grinding
and sewing of the leather, to the fixing of the
sole. Belt production is showcased as well as the
opportunity to buy various leather artefacts.
Come and meet the artisans of shoe making,
follow the steps of the production process and
discover important elements of their historic
craft!

learn about the craft and the usage of the Oselvar,
Norway’s national boat.

Oselvarverkstaden inviterer deg til å koma og
oppleva den tradisjonsrike båtbygginga. Du
kan bestilla deg ein båt, som vert tilpassa nett
det du skal bruka han til, eller du kan kjøpa
ymse tilfang, kunst eller litteratur som har
med Oselvaren å gjera. Oselvarverkstaden
byggjer båtar som har ein nær 2000 år gammal
tradisjon i Hordaland. Båtbyggjarkunnskapen
er overført frå generasjon til generasjon sidan
lenge før vikingtida. Møtet med båtbyggjarane
og utstillinga på Oselvarverkstaden vil gje deg
ei oppleving av historia om bygging og bruk av
Oselvaren.
Harald Dalland er meisteren som dei yngre
båtbyggjarane har lært hos. Dei andre
båtbyggjarane er Leif Harald Amundsen, Berit
Synnøve Osmundsen og Maik Riebort. Åsmund
Lien er dagleg leiar. Oselvarverkstaden ligg i Os
sentrum, ved munningen av Oselva, som gav
båten namn for 250 år sidan. Verkstaden vart
sett i drift i 1997, med det føremålet å berga den
gamle handverkskunnskapen.
The Oselvar workshop invites you to discover
the traditional craft of boat building. You can
order a new boat that can be adjusted exactly
to you specifications, or you may prefer to buy
various items for the boat, artist products or

literature that has to do with the Oselvar boat.
The oselvar workshop builds boats that have
an almost 2000 year tradition in Hordaland.
Boat building knowledge has been transferred
between the generations since long before the
Viking age. Your meeting with the boat builders
and the exhibition at the Oselvar workshop will
give you a learning experience of the history
about boat building and the use of the Oselvar
throughout history.
Harald Dalland is the master of the craft. He has
passed the knowledge on to the younger boat
builders at the workshop. The boat builders of
today are Leif Harald Amundsen, Berit Synnøve
Osmundsen and Maik Riebort. Åsmund Lien is
the workshop director. The Oselvar workshop
is located at Os centre, by the mouth of the river
Os, which gave the name to the boat 250 years
ago. The workshop was established in 1997 with
the aim of preserving the old artisan craft of boat
building.

Fjordtønna byggjer på gamle tradisjonar. Fram
til starten av førre hundreår var tønner i alle
moglege storleikar den absolutt dominerande
emballasjen, både for matvarer og andre
produkt. Bøkring har vore kjent i Noreg i
mange hundre år. I fiskerinasjonen Noreg
fann me bøkkerverkstader langs heile kysten,
men òg innlandet kjende til kunsten, både med
å lage store og små tønner. I dag er det ein
handfull att. Såleis er Fjordtønna i dag ein viktig
tradisjonsberar, som òg tar vare på naudsynt
kunnskap om handverket.
Odd Magnar, Hjørdis og Johannes Tysse eig og
driv familieverksemda Fjordtønna. I 1998 tok
dei opp tradisjonsyrket bøkring og spesialiserte
seg på å lage små tønner. Produksjonen går
føre seg på familiegarden til Johannes. Her
har det vore tradisjonell vestnorsk gardsdrift i
mange generasjonar. Alle naturressursar har
vore nytta og tekne i bruk, frå fiske i fjorden til
stølsdrift i utmarka. Ein vestlandsbonde skal
vere sjølvhjelpen på alle felt; såleis er Johannes
agronom, fiskar og snekkar i tillegg til at han òg
er lærar.

There is always a warm welcome awaiting you at Tysse
other products. Coopering has been known
in Norway for centuries. In such a fish-based
economy, there were cooperages all along the
coast and even in the hinterland they practised
the craft of making small and big barrels. Today
there are very few coopers left and Fjordtønna
represents an important tradition where they
maintain the passion, the knowledge and skills
of the craft.
Odd Magnar, Hjørdis and Johannes Tysse own
and operate the Fjordtønna company. In 1998
they started the modernised cooperage business
specialising in miniature barrels. The production
takes place at their farm where generations
of the Tysse family have made a living from
traditional west coast hill farming. All natural
resources were utilised at the farm, from fishing
in the fjords to summer farming. A west coast
farmer must be self-sufficient. Johannes is an
agriculturalist, fisherman and carpenter, in
addition to being a teacher.

Den skulpturelle treskjeringa har ein lang
tradisjon i Myrkdalen og på Voss. Her er det
ei rik historie om treskjering å hauste av og
distriktet har hatt mange meisterar i det stolte
handverksfaget. Treskjerartunet vart skapt av
Sjur Mørkve (1917-2007) og dei mest kjende av
figurane hans er stilt ut i ÉCONOMUSÉE, som
til dømes den første geitebukken han skar som 12
åring, den kjære kløvhesten og nøtteknekkaren.
Hans kunstnariske arv er teken vare på av hans
næraste familie.
I dag er det særs få som har treskjering som
næringsverksemd. Treskjerartunet er difor
ein viktig tradisjonsberar som tek vare på
naudsynt kunnskap og formidling av det viktige
handverket.
Arne Mørkve har vore treskjerar sidan 1989.
Han har spesialisert seg på å skjera dyr. Bergfrid
Mørkve byrja med treskjering i ungdomsåra. Ho
likar å laga menneskefigurar med karakter og
sjel mens Geir Nymark er ein røynd treskjerar,
som òg har vidareutvikla kunstuttrykka inn i
grafisk arbeid.
Sculptural woodcarving has a long tradition
in Myrkdalen and Voss where the district has
had many master woodcarvers. Treskjerartunet

was established as a workshop by Sjur Mørkve
(1917-2007). His most famous artifacts are
exhibited in the ÉCONOMUSÉE like his very
first woodcarving of a goat when he was 12
years old; as well as the lovely horses and famous
nutcrackers. His legacy is well taken care of by
the next generation.
Today, there are very few people with
woodcarving as their profession, therefore
Treskjerartunet is an important carrier of the
tradition, which protects the knowledge and
interpretation of this craft heritage.
Arne Mørkve has been a wood carver since
1989 and specializes in carving animals.
Bergfrid Mørkve has been a woodcarver since
her youth and creates figures with character and
soul, whilst Geir Nymark, an experienced wood
carver, has also further developed his creativity
into graphical forms.

Stine Hoff kunstglass éCONOMUSée er i eit
vakkert moderne verkstadbygg spesialdesigna
til formålet på Hop, i nærleiken av Troldhaugen
Edvard Grieg museum.
Glasproduksjon og den frie glasblåsinga har ei
lang og spanande historie. I romartida spreidde
kunnskapen om glasframstilling seg langs
handelsvegane i områda nord for Middelhavet
til dagens Europa. Det er også funne glas i
Noreg som er datert til folkevandringstid,
merovingartid og vikingtid. Mange av desse
glasa er etter alt å dømme blåse og dreve på
liknande måte som vi kan sjå her i glashytta.
Stine Hoff er ein anerkjent glaskunstnar og
ho er først og fremst opptatt av den klassiske/
tradisjonelle glasblåsarkunsten, sjølv om ho
også nyttar seg av andre teknikkar. Stine
lagar drikkeglas i mange former og variantar,
skåler, lysestakar, fat etc. Ho er opptatt av at
det ho lagar skal vere funksjonelt og med eit
enkelt og moderne uttrykk. Stine ivrar for at
glasblåsarfaget vert ført vidare og har difor
lærlingar med seg i produksjonen.
Stine Hoff Glassblower ÉCONOMUSÉE is in
a modern and beautiful building at Hop, very
close to the Troldhaugen Edvard Grieg museum.

The production of glass and the free blowing
craft techniques have a long and exciting history.
In the Roman era the knowledge of glassblowing
spread along the trading routes in the areas north
of the Mediterranean, into today’s Europe. We
have also found glass in Norway dated to the
migration period in Europe, the Merovingian
and Viking age. Many of these glass products
have been blown and pressed according to the
same glassblowing techniques as are practiced
today at the Stine Hoff workshop.
Stine Hoff is an acknowledged glassblowing
artisan since 1990. She is first and foremost in
the classic and traditional art of glassblowing,
although she also makes use of other techniques.
Stine makes drinking tablets in many forms
and varieties, bowls and candlesticks etc. She
is dedicated to functional products and simple
modern expressions. Stine is also concerned that
the craft is being taken care of into the future
and she therefore has trainees with her in the
production.
