Germany is a parliamentary federal republic
comprising sixteen states. Berlin is the capital city.
Culturally, Germany has been known for its
contribution in many fields like music, literature,
philosophy, art and architecture, and sports.

Architecture
The architecture of Germany has a long, rich and diverse
history. Every major European style from Roman to Post
Modern is demonstrated, including renowned examples
of Carolingian, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance,
Baroque, Classical and Modern architecture
Base: regional structure. The diverse architectural styles
of the country is a result of fragmentation of the country
during centuries.
Romanesque: Speyer Cathedral: Romanesque
church (11th century) The cathedral is regarded as
a symbol of imperial power. One of the most
important architectural monuments of its time and
one of the finest Romanesque monuments.
Gothic: Cologne Cathedral - Kölni dóm: a
masterpiece of Gothic architecture and was
inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List in
1996. At the time of its completion in the 19th
century, the cathedral was the tallest building in
the world.
Baroque: The Dresden Frauenkirche - Church of Our
Lady is a Lutheran church in Dresden the capital of the
German state of Saxony. It is considered an
outstanding example of Protestant sacred
architecture, featuring one of the largest domes in
Europe.
Walhalla in Regensburg . The Walhalla is a hall of
fame that honors laudable and distinguished people,
famous personalities in German history – politicians,
sovereigns, scientists and artists of the German
tongue
Reichstag: is a historical edifice in Berlin, constructed to
house the Imperial Diet of the German Empire
modern: Einstein Tower is an astrophysical observatory in
the Albert Einstein Science Park in Potsdam. The Einstein
Tower is a functional building, a solar observatory, which
was scientifically Europe’s most important solar telescope
until the Second World War.
Neuschwanstein Castle is a nineteenth-century
Romanesque Revival palace on a rugged hill above the
village of Hohenschwangau. The palace was
commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and as
a homage to Richard Wagner. The palace has appeared
prominently in several movies and was the inspiration for
Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle and later, similar
structures.
Music
One of the leading music markets in the world,
Germany is home to some of the most wellknown classical music composers, including
Ludwig van Beethoven, Johann Sebastian Bach,
Johannes Brahms, and Richard Wagner.

Concert halls and opera houses
Hamburg Stat OperaPaganini, Liszt, Wagner and
Mahler all performed there before the theatre was
renamed Hamburg State Opera in 1934. It is today
one of Europe's leading opera houses.
Semper Opera, Dresden: Dresden's legendary
Semper Opera House has not had an easy life –
it was burnt down in 1869, destroyed by
bombers in 1945 and badly damaged by floods
in 2002.
Alte Oper, Frankfurt: The neo-Renaissance Alte
Oper building was inaugurated in 1880 in the
presence of the Kaiser. It was almost completely
destroyed during the Second World War and
reopened only in 1981.
Philharmonie, Berlin: the new Philharmonie was
affectionately known as Karajan's Circus. It became
an emblem of West Berlin and is now part of the
Berlin Kulturforum.
Literature
German literature is world-famous and dates back to the Middle Ages. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe , Friedrich
Schiller , Thomas Mann , Bertolt Brecht , and Hermann Hesse are some of the most renowned German authors.
Germany hosts the Frankfurt Book
Fair annually; it is the biggest book
fair in the world.

hockey, and tennis tournaments. One of the
leading motor sports countries in the world,
Germany is known for the manufacture of motor
brands such as BMW and Mercedes.
