The Construction of Solomon’s
Temple – 967 to 960 b.c.
• God was satisfied with the tent/tabernacle
arrangement (2nd Samuel 7:5-7)
• 1st Kings 8:17- “And it was in the heart of
David my father to build an house for the
name of the Lord God of Israel…”
• 1st Kings 8:18 – “And the Lord said unto David
my father, ‘whereas it was in thine heart to
build an house unto my name, thou didst
well that it was in thine heart.”

• 1st Chronicles 22:8-10 - “But the word of the
LORD came to me, saying, Thou hast shed
blood abundantly, and hast made great
wars: thou shalt not build an house unto my
name, because thou hast shed much blood
upon the earth in my sight.
• Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who
shall be a man of rest…for his name shall be
Solomon, and I will give peace and
quietness unto Israel in his days.
• He shall build an house for my name….”

• 1st Chronicles 28:19 - “All this, said David,
the LORD made me understand in writing by
his hand upon me, even all the works of this
pattern.”
• 1st Chronicles 22:14 - “…I have prepared for
the house of the LORD an hundred thousand
talents of gold, and a thousand thousand
talents of silver; and of brass and iron without
weight; for it is in abundance: timber also
and stone have I prepared….”

a levy out of all Israel; and the levy was thirty
thousand men.”
• “And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand
a month by courses: a month they were in
Lebanon, and two months at home….”

• 2nd Chronicles 2:17-18 “And Solomon
numbered all the strangers that were in the
land of Israel, after the numbering wherewith
David his father had numbered them; and
they were found an hundred and fifty
thousand and three thousand and six
hundred.
• And he set threescore and ten thousand of
them to be bearers of burdens, and
fourscore thousand to be hewers in the
mountain, and three thousand and six
hundred overseers to set the people a work.

• 1st Kings 6:1 “And it came to pass in the four
hundred and eightieth year after the
children of Israel were come out of the land
of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's
reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which is
the second month, that he began to build
the house of the LORD.”
The Exodus was in 1446 b.c. (early in the year)
The 4th year of Solomon’s reign was 967 b.c.
