Good Question!
★ Sexism: prejudice, stereotyping, and
discrimination on the basis of sex
★ Sexism goes BOTH ways
★ Can be seen everywhere around the world no
matter the race, ethnicity, or economical status
★ Women have been fighting for years to be treated
as equals to the men in our society.
★ It is not only seen in the workplace, but also in our
homes, media, and culture.
★ A new study from the Harvard Business School
suggests that sexism is much more subtle.
★ The term “benevolent sexism” is used to speak
about ongoing discrimination against women in the
workforce
★ Men in the workplace will compliment women, say
that they are great workers, and yet still will not give
those same women the promotions that they deserve.
★ According to the White House representatives, women
earn 77% of what men make.
★ This means that women have to work 3 months longer
than men to earn what men make.
★ Sexual harassment towards women can also be seen in
the workplace.
★ 79% of the sexually harassed people in the workplace
are women.
★ Women have said that this harassment is 57% of the
reason they quit their jobs.
★ Our culture has sexualized women in our music
and our television.
★ We have said that women can not perform the
same in the police force, fire departments,
and the military.
★ Men are also sexually discriminated, a lot
more than you probably thought...allow us
to explain (Katie)
★ Men receive 63% longer sentences than
women for the same crime.
★ Men are 165% more likely to be convicted
than women.
★ In a study, Harvard Business revealed that
court bias against men is 6 times larger
than racial biased.
★ The divorce courts are considered to be one of the
largest “men discriminators” in the nation.
★ Men are forced to pay alimony and child support,
sometimes even if the child is not biologically theirs or
if the woman had a job.
★ The alimony and child support may forever put the
man in debt and can financially and mentally ruin the
man.
★ Men are also expected to pass tougher
physical tests to qualify for the military,
police force, fire departments, and many
other “physically demanding” jobs.
★ Yet, men are expected to work with the
women and receive the same salary.
★ 65% of domestic violence is against men.
★ Less than 1% of domestic violence shelters are for
men.
★ Women are seen as the aggressor 53% of the time, yet
men are convicted more than 98% of the time.
Whether it is a man sexually harassing a woman at work,
or the courts discriminating against men, the sexism in
our society needs to stop. It goes against the Catholic

Solidarity, Rights of Workers, and Rights and
Responsibilities.
