The Ravello Concert Society is pleased to announce
its 30th anniversary season of concerts. Debuting in 1983,
the RCS concert series is a traditional and well established
date in Ravello which over the years has delighted
thousands of visitors with a wide range of performances
by soloists and chamber music groups. The 2015
programme showcases a changing lineup of musicians and
groups featuring works from classical selections to
enjoyable jazz performances.
Big news of the season, after over 30 years we have moved
up the concert start time in Spring and Autumn from
09.30 pm to 7.00 pm, in line with what usually happens
all over the world, and a definitely more suitable time to
take advantage of the public bus service at the concert
end. Only the concerts from 8 June to 13 September will
be performed at 09.00 pm, still in time for the concertgoers to take the last bus to the main towns on the Amalfi
coast.
This season will also see enhancements to a new recital
hall: the Ravello Art Center, the former Grand Caruso
Wine Cellar, very close to Ravello main square, about 50
m from the parking and 30 m from the bus stop, is a
purpose restored concert hall for chamber music, which
will be integrated with an exhibition space. It will host all
Sunday concerts in Spring and Autumn. Great care has
been taken to ensure that the hall has superb acoustics.
The intimacy, which is so vital for chamber music, will be
preserved through its seating capacity of 100.
But we do not forget our historical locations. The RCS
Recital Hall (also known as Annunziata Historic Building)
is located on the borderline of Villa Rufolo Park and,
with its world famous domes, has been since ever the
icon of Ravello and its Music Festival. The Hall was built in
1281 by Fusco noble family and later became part of the
Rufolo family estate. In 1851 Villa Rufolo was bought by
Sir Nevile Reid, a Scottish botanist. He restored the Villa
to its antique splendour, adding rare plants to its gardens.
In June some concerts are infact held in the garden, in
the nearby of one of the ancient towers. In case of bad
weather condition the outdoor concerts are held inside
the RCS Recital Hall.
Some concerts are held in the Ferrigno Auditorium in
Scala-Campidoglio hamlet, which lies at about 3,0 km (35’

on foot and little less than 10’ by car) from Ravello center.
The Ferrigno Auditorium results from the conversion of
two connected ancient Romanic churches (one in front of
the other) into a polyvalent venue well equipped for
performances. From the Auditorium you can see a
beautiful view of Ravello hanging over the coast and, in
the clear weather, of the Salerno Gulf, with Paestum and
Palinuro Cape in the distance.
The new season kicks off on Friday April 3, with the piano
recital by Fabrizio Romano, whose technical prowess
and compelling interpretation make him an in-demand
performer. From then onwards, until the 30 October, a
sequence of musical events, featuring musicians with
undeniable skills. The Neapolis String Quartet holds
an undisputed place among the South Italian finest
chamber ensembles. Spontaneous, passionate, dynamic
and committed, the Quartet goes ahead in 2015 with its
multi-year project: 4 complete series of quartets, Haydn’s
(6 April), Beethoven’s (25 May) Mendelssohn’s (22 June)
and Schubert’s (12 October).
Music should bring us together and open our minds to
discovery, innovation and reflection, it resists
categorization, then let’s contaminate! Lelio Di Tullio
(clarinet) accompanied by Paola Landrini on piano, opens
(22 April) and closes (23 October) the festival on “Jazz
contaminations”, this year enriched with 13 dates.
Valeria Vertuccio (17 June) will present her arrangement
of famous Italian pop pieces, while Danilo Blaiotta (26
June) will introduce, among the others, his own
compositions.
August will be ImproBACHable: yes, improBACHable!
On August, the 11th and 13th “Jazz takes on Classical”
performed by Raffaele Maisano & Mattia Mistrangelo:
two pianos facing each other talk together about Johann
Sebastian Bach and Jazz improvisations.
Giovanni Doria Miglietta will be on stage on September
the 1st with A Tribute to Earl Wild, while the Francesco
Nastro - Nello Mallardo piano duo will go “Flying on
the classics, from Brahms to Listz across the Jazz”
on September the 6th.
Piano jazz contaminations go on with Mattia Mistrangelo
(18 September) and Davide Valluzzi (28 September) and
the Monti-Bianco piano duo on October the 4th
On October the14th the accordion takes the spotlight
with Ivano Biscardi accompanied by Virginio Aiello at the
piano. On October the 19th Luca Paccagnella (cello) and
Raffaele D’Aniello (piano) will present their “Histoire du
tango” with a large selection of famous pieces by the most
important tango composers.
This year too RCS will present its tribute to landmarks
of the world classical music. On April the 29th the ARTELLI
PIANO TRIO will perform the program of its recently
published CD dedicated to Astor Piazzolla “Cuatro
estaciónes porteñas”
Fryderyk Chopin will be honoured in 3 piano recitals: by
Giuseppe Maiorca on May the 11th, Raffaele Maisano on
September the 16th and Fabrizio Romano on October
the 30th, while Alexander Scriabin on May the 20th by
the pianist Filippo Balducci
Giuseppe Bianco will dedicate to the French composer
Cecile Chaminade his piano recital on May the 31st .
Ludwig van Beethoven’s piano sonatas will be
performed by Giuseppe Maiorca on September the 14th
and by Mario Coppola on October the 11th. Gianluca Di
Donato will complete the series of Mozart’s piano sonatas
on September the 20th and will start Schubert’s on
October the 16th, while Carlo Coppola and Donatella
Biond violin and piano duo will go on the series of Bach
violin and piano sonatas on October the 26th.
All tickets for a RCS concert purchased on RCS internet
site (www.ravelloarts.org) include free entrance to the
Ravello Cathedral Museum, the “Opera Duomo Museum”
Located inside the Ravello Cathedral, the Museum opened
in 1983. It keeps classical and medieval works, urns,
sarcophagi, sculptures, mosaics, stone ornaments and
silver artefacts, precious testimonials of the Faith which
inspired the aristocratic families of Ravello in the past
centuries, generous commissioners of outstanding
masterpieces.

Coming from North
Leave the motorway A3(E45) Napoli-Salerno,
at Angri SUD gate following the indications
to Costiera Amalfitana and Valico di Chiunzi
pass (SP2 and SP1 roads).
Coming from South
On A3 (E45) Napoli-Reggio Calabria exit at
Salerno Centro and drive along the SS163
“Amalfitana” road. Along the travel you will
pass through the coastal villages of Vietri sul
Mare, Cetara, Maiori and Minori. This is a
very panoramic but winding road where
traffic jams are frequent in week-ends and
holydays. It is better then to continue on the
A3 and exit at Nocera gate to reach Ravello
through “Valico di Chiunzi” pass.
By bus

Amalfi (5 Km far from Ravello) is the terminal
of busses. From Amalfi there are many
connections to other towns of the coast:
1h 10’ from Salerno to Amalfi, 1h 40’ from
Sorrento to Amalfi, 50’ from Positano to
Amalfi and 25’ from Amalfi to Ravello/Scala.
Please verify the availability of the bus service
after the concerts. It may therefore be
advisable to book a taxi in advance for the
way back. A list of taxi drivers that have an
agreement for special fares is available on the
Ravello Concert Society web site.

Parking
In Ravello, the “Piazza Duomo” parking is
available. For concerts at the Annunziata
Church in Scala parking is allowed along the
road near the entrance. Automated payment:
it is advisable to bring coins.
Restaurants
Almost all restaurants apply a 15% discount
for concert ticket holders, on the evening of
the concert. A list of suggested restaurants
is available on the Ravello Concert Society
web site. Reservation is advisable.

If you are staying in the nearby, you can also
reach Ravello walking along the many
footpaths which, starting from the coast,
climb up to the village on a hill at 365m sl.
Ravello is the starting point of several trails,
which are part of a network of about 100
itineraries marked by CAI (Italian Mountain
Sports Association) in the regional Park of
Lattari Mountains. You can go from Vietri to
Sorrento along a trekking lasting one or
several days. Some itineraries are also suitable
for mountain bikes. A group of bikers is locally

Concert locations
The RCS Recital Hall is located on the
borderline of Villa Rufolo Park and, with its
world famous domes, has been since ever the
icon of Ravello and its Music Festival. The Hall
(also know as Annunziata Historic Building)
was built in 1281 by Fusco noble family and
later became part of the Rufolo family estate.
In 1851 Villa Rufolo was bought by Sir Nevile
Reid, a Scottish botanist. He restored the Villa
to its antique splendour, adding rare plants to
its gardens. A restoration work was carried
out in 1982-1983 bringing the Historic
Building to its original romanic style. Since
then the complex has been used as location
of our concerts. The RCS Recital Hall is the
venue for the concert in the cool spring and
autumn evenings. In June some concerts are
held in the garden, in the nearby of one of
the ancient towers. In case of bad weather
condition concerts are held inside the Recital
Hall. The Ferrigno Auditorium in
Campidoglio hamlet - which lies at about 3,0
km (35’ on foot and little less than 10’ by car)
from Ravello center - results from the
conversion of two connected ancient
Romanic churches (one in front of the other)
into a polyvalent venue well equipped for

The “sfusato amalfitano” lemon is the most
renown among the local products and the
“limoncello” liquor is made by infusing the
lemon peel in alcohol. A free taste of “Ravello
Concert Society Selection” limocello during
the concert intermission is offered by the
liquor maker “I Giardini di Ravello”

performances.. From the Auditorium you can
see a beautiful view of Ravello hanging over
the coast and, in the clear weather, of the
Salerno Gulf, with Paestum and Palinuro Cape
in the distance (see picture above).
In May 2015 a new venue will be open: the
Ravello Art Center at the former Grand
Caruso Wine Cellars, dating back to the end
of 19th cent. Very close to Ravello main
square, about 50 m from the the parking and
30 m from the bus stop, the Ravello Art
Centre, a purpose restored concert hall for
chamber music, will host all Sunday concerts.
Free shuttle service
Free transfer to the concerts in Ferrigno
Auditorium in Scala and back to Ravello is
available from 8.15 p.m. to 8.45 p.m. at the
taxi stand in Piazza Duomo (main square) in
Ravello and after the concert in Scala. Please
note that this is a courtesy service offered by
Ravello taxi companies and it is depending on
car and minivan availability on site.

It is possible to book on the web: ticket
collection will be at the box office that opens
at the venue 30' minutes before each
performance. It is also possible to purchase
your tickets at the Tourist Information Office
in Ravello. Tickets are not refundable (except
in the event that the performance is
cancelled), but may be exchanged up to 48
hours before the event to a different
concert.The right is reserved to substitute
artists, to vary the advertised programme and
the concert location if necessary. Please note
that your ticket does not include the visit of
Villa Rufolo Gardens.
Live recordings
We record all concerts for future CD release.
The recordings are not designed to document
perfection, but to capture the excitement of
the live concert experience. Please ask at the
box office about the availability for the
concert that you have just attended or write
to info@ravelloarts.org for past recordings.
Dress code
Don’t worry, you do not need to bring an
evening dress in your baggage. Casual wear
is the rule.
Concert & Museum entrance
Concert tickets purchased on RCS internet

entrance to the Ravello Cathedral Museum.
